Let's hope they bring a few players back with them in the form of commitments. This would be a dream trip for BUS.

Here is the Advertiser article about the Samoa trip: http://www.honoluluadvertiser.com/apps/ ... PORTSFRONTNice summary of the back story for Reagan Mauia (the backup RB that I've mentioned here) In 2005, he joined the University of Hawai'i football team as a 360-pound nose tackle. He did not receive a football scholarship that season.
Near the end of the 2005 season, he moved to running back and made a commitment to physical fitness. He weighed 295 pounds when he reported to spring training in March 2006.
Sharing the running back's job with Nate Ilaoa, Mauia had a productive 2006 season. That merited selection, by the Dolphins, in the sixth round of the 2007 draft. Mauia, despite suffering a fracture in his left hand in the final preseason game, played in all 16 games, starting nine times.
Note: Reagan was the *only* FB on Miami's roster, so technically he was their starting FB all season. However, a FB wasn't always used to start each game. Here is the Star-Bulletin article about the Samoa trip: http://starbulletin.com/2008/06/27/sports/story04.htmlOne key note about this camp: Jones plans for it to be an annual undertaking.

If you scroll down on this blog you can see some photos of the SMU coaches before they left for Samoa. You can also see a photo of Hawaii players who currently or previously played in the NFL who have Samoa ties.

Why is the Honolulu press doing a better job covering SMU football than the Dallas media?

Is that a rhetorical question?

Since Kate is covering the Olympics I don't think anyone from the DMN is covering SMU.

I know Kate is covering the Olympics, but they need to assign SMU to someone else while she is busy with that. It's a shame that our hometown newspaper has no beat writer for us right now.
I'm going to compare it to Corpus Christi, where there are a large number of Longhorn and Aggie fans. Do you know what's on the front page of their rag during basketball season? Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Seriously.

The Olympics end August 24 so I guess we will get some coverage on the 25th.

Chuck Carlton seems to be spreading out and staying on our beat, as well, while Kate is away.

Chuck Carlton, I'm told, is the interim SMU beat reporter.
Maybe the Hawaii media is covering it better because it's happening over there?

Is he just doing blogs which every now and then mention SMU or does he write articles also. Seems to me this should be a pretty big deal in such a slow time in the sports world. If Mack Brown had gone to Samoa I guarantee it would have been front page with Chipper all over it.

Give it until next year's trip, if all goes to plan we'll be media darlings for a our return to glory.
