I think the proper thing would have been to invite a DMN reporter to accompany Jones et al. It could have been a great experience for an intern while Kate was away, and filled some space in the sports section during a relatively slow time.

Give her a little break. China is a different time zone I would think.

Isn't American Samoa between here and China?

By the way, the money for the scholarships given out at the Samoa camp came from JJ's golf tournament in Hawaii. JJ then played in McMackin's tournament the next day. The Governor at American Samoa was in photos with JJ and McMackin at that tournament, and they left for American Samoa shortly after the tournaments were over.

The June Jones celebrity golf tourney on the Big Island on Monday raised $10,000 each for two Hawaii charities, HUGS and the Ronald McDonald House. Also, $10,000 for scholarships for five football players from American Samoa, which will be awarded when Jones and Greg McMackin and members of their SMU and Hawaii staffs run a clinic there this weekend. The group heads out tomorrow.
Today, McMackin is hosting his golf tournament on Kauai. Jack Thompson, nicknamed The Throwin’ Samoan when he was Washington State (NOT WASHINGTON, thanks to BigIsland Kurt for keeping me honest on this one) quarterback, is among the celebs at McMackin’s tourney. Jones is playing on Kauai at McMackin’s tourney also, with the governor of American Samoa.
