Kates time zone

Postby ozfan » Sun Jun 29, 2008 10:28 am

Chin is a +15 to 16 hours ahead of Dallas time. Still a paper that size should have a back up to cover local school recruiting.

Hell with that, they should have invited PonyPride.

Give Kate a break — I would assume she's covering trials in different sports, and getting a headstart on her Olympic prep work. She's a damn good writer, and I look forward to reading her Olympic coverage on-line — has to be better than the crap the Statesman will give us.

as per scout.
Let's save some time. I'm pasting their "story" in its entirety because it's not a premium story and there's no actual information in it. If the moderators would like to delete this post, that's cool.

The other site ran a photo of offensive line coach Dennis McKnight, special teams coach Frank Gansz, head coach June Jones, running backs coach Wes Suan and receivers coach Jeff Reinebold - without identifying them, except for Coach Jones - and ran the following caption:

"Southern Methodist University's New Head Coach June Jones and four Mustang assistant coaches recently held a football clinic and camp in American Samoa. This photo is one of the coaching staff in traditional Samoa outfits. This photo was supplied to us by the SMU Sports Information Department"

"Traditional Samoa outfits?" When did "Samoa" become an adjective? I'd bet there's even a name for those SamoaN outfits.

Of course it's also under a headline that says the coaches are back from Samoa, and they don't return until tonight and tomorrow (and a couple next week).
Other than that, rock-solid reporting.

Update on the Samoa trip:

http://warriorbeat.honadvblogs.com/2008/07/01/next-stop-western-samoa/

[quote]The SMU-UH goodwill trip to American Samoa was successful in many ways. Too often, coaches go to the U.S. territory solely for recruiting purposes. This time, the group of coaches went there to help, delivering medical supplies and teaching a two-day clinic.

The tour and the preceding golf tournaments on Kaua‘i and Kona gave closure to last year’s coaching staff. With the chaos surrounding June Jones’ sudden departure to SMU (followed by the departure of four UH assistants), there was little time for a proper goodbye. Jones and McMackin sat side-by-side on the flights to and from American Samoa.
