I would think JW has the experience and knowledge of coverages to have an advantage over any freshman. There is always the possibility that the QB position could see more than one QB during the year.
JW may pick up the system better than we think. With luck, JW is studying film and skull time with his position coach to catch up from the spring. But if JW has some areas of slow development and a new face QB picks it up, then one may well see multiple personnel at the QB position. And if JW continues his fumbling ways, then we will definitely see a new face at QB.
My sources ( I always wanted to be able to say that) say that Willis has been getting plenty of work with the new system since Jones came on board. He just did not work with the team. Timing starts over in 2-a-days anyway. The speed of D1A compared to HS is quite a difference and it will take a while for freshmen to adapt, and that adaptation has to be in real time action. Willis will be way ahead of anyone we have when the season starts.
All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
i think you got that backwards... they are going to have to beat out justin... even though no one had been named the "starter," justin's experience and proven ability at the college level puts him in the lead
This offense is far different from last years-Turner has a definite advantage going into camp in reps. That is some worthy experience to the new staff. If JW overcomes then we are so much the better but regardless we are in good shape at qb with inexperience being the only worry behind those 2. We finally have a stable of "arms" at qb. That has never been the case here and it will only get better.
I can't see a situation where Willis doesn't start. Not only from an experience standpoint, but from the fact that he has been one of, if not THE, single most effective offensive player we've had since the DP. Benching one of the most talented players on the team does not seem to be an effective way to catalyze a turnaround. This is not an ineffective incumbant who's been putting up 9 TD, 11 Int years the last couple seasons.
Willis was being called the savior of this program a year ago. Since then our defense has rivaled a middle school team and somehow SMU's inability to win games is translating to a singular failure by the QB position in the eyes of fans. JJ knows how to utilize offensive weapons and not mandate that Willis runs for 150 yards and passes for 300 every game to be competitive. The reigns will be tightened, as this offense should provide more structure for reads and less improvisation. Much like his record breaking freshman year he should be much more efficient from a turnover standpoint.* * Barring a 20 fumble season
* Barring a 20 fumble season[/quote]
I did not know about the fumbles only seeing 2 games last year. Now i really am paranoid ![]()
Someone will move to the front during 7 on 7 this summer. Dan will be working with all QB's. I would say, according to the coach's, it's an even playing field. They will pick the best QB for the team; just don't be surprised if it's not JWill. The coach's have said time and time again, they are not affraid to put a freshman at QB.
Michael Beasley was 6'10'' at K-State and he's now 6'7" in the NBA...the measurements in college are the most misleading stats
nice point... but go stand next to jwill... he's 6+
hes right at, if not a tad under 6. im 5'10" and hes just a shade taller than me. maybe over 6 inches with 1/2inch cleats
