Bryan Collins just commited per scout. He has a few pretty good offers.

Now this is a guy I think is a quality recruit. Heck with all the big guys we are recruiting, Collins at 6-4 may fit in at Guard giving us a chance to get bigger on the Offensive Line. Based on Rivals and Scout, offers include SMU, Houston, Iowa St., Rice, Vandy, New Mexico St., Buffalo, Air Force and I thought NTSU had offered too based on other reports.

The OL recruits are not grease-balls either. Most of them have the height, frame and feet to pass protect and pull. The pocket in the scheme is not deep and athletic linemen are required.

McKnight (and Suan to a degree) will polish the edges on these prospects. Time will tell but I like the pieces being put into place. 11 commits in July at SMU, things do change.

More importantly than the # of recruits are the positions. These coaches seem to understand you build from the line out. Jones should always be able to get his fair share of skill people. It is the line, both offense and defense, but mainly offense in Jones' mind that we need the most help with and they are doing it. This is kind of fun to watch.

How many scholarships are we planning on giving out this year? I thought I read someone say a few weeks ago that we only had something like 17 or 18 scholarships for 09. We're sitting at 11 right now and there seem to be a whole bunch of outstanding offers for us to choose from.

A post on ponystampede said that we are looking at giving out 18 scholarships this season and we are sitting at 15 scholarships for 09 with the four grey shirts (?) from the previous class. Looks like we're just about wrapped up on the recruiting front unless we lose some guys through attrition.

Nutt is having some trouble at Ole Miss right now. Apparently he signed many over the limit (as he always did at Arkansas), but a combination of the kids making their grades (he was planning on some of them not qualifying) and the fact he conveniently forgot to tell any of them they might have to gray shirt, has some of them leaving and walking on elsewhere. One kid from Sylvan Hill, Arkansas has already done so and supposedly others are considering.

I doubt JJ will get us in that kind of scholarship crunch. Oversigning is very common in the SEC. Hell I think three or four years ago Mississippi State signed like 35 guys thinking that 10-12 wouldn't make it into school.
