I think there are about 10-12 guys on the Roster who better show June Jones something this year. The fallout from coaching changes usually takes about a full year- I think that's where you'll find the extra space and I bet we sign at least 20 new kids next year. The applicable date is August 2009. Heck there probably will be some fallout on reporting date August 2008. (I do think we signed too many marginal recruits last year in the class of 29-wish we had been more selective).

Big Men, BIG MEN, big men - Mrydel understands and so does JJ. Build the line and the little fast guy will want to come here.

Its getting more fun to be a Mustang these days.

Practice your tailgating this weekend. Fall is going to be good.

The battles are won in the trenches and we are loading up on big men to win those battles.

I would think that anyone in that RS-Soph category (who is in his 3rd year here) and hasn't earned playing time may have to think about whether he can afford to pay his own way if he wants to graduate from SMU...or think about playing his football at the I-AA/FCS level. Smells like a return to "big boy" football if that indeed happens

If we learned anything from the Bennett experiment it is that momentum is fleeting.

SMU needs to show improvement now, not 4 years from now. If that means yanking some scholarships to bring in better talent, so be it.

At long last......there is more than enough talent to win in CUSA in the 300 mile radius of SMU.....and now we have a coach who can recruit that area, not because he is from Texas, but because he is a national name. I never bought that BS about Bennett having ties to the Texas HS coaches. That might have been important in the 70s and 80s, but in this day and age, a national name means the world.

Also, we now have a coach and staff that has a long and proven track record of identifying talent and finding the right talent for the system they run. Our previous staffs were horrible at this.

I agree with Stallion - they will take close to 20 - not including the gray shirts. There will be academic fall out - as well as hacked off guys that due to demotions forthcoming, as well as some pulled scholies .

And I would rather see us over-shoot and figure it out then to under shoot - it only takes one game breaker to break a game.

I will be surprised if we do not get one or two Samoans before it is over.

With all due respect, I'll be surprised if we get any.

Me too. Not to write off the intelligence of the kids over there, but there's talk that the school system over there doesn't adequately prepare its kids academically. Could be a rare occurrence to get a player from there.

Collins' High School Coaches comments via FWST

First of three

Keller offensive lineman Bryan Collins committed to SMU on Wednesday. Collins, who is entering his second year as a starter, had offers from Vanderbilt, Iowa State, Rice and Houston. Collins, who has played at guard, is going to play tackle.

"He’s exactly what they’re looking for," Keller coach Kevin Atkinson said. "He’s very athletic, mobile and he’s a great pass protector and run blocker. The best thing they liked were his feet."

Collins will likely be one of three Division I offensive lineman for Keller, along with Nick Ash and Nate Richards.
