What if Yield is Higher the we Thought

Postby gostangs » Wed Jul 02, 2008 8:25 pm

Question for the recruiting experts. We seem to be getting yes's from many of our recruits - showing a much higher yield on our offers - or maybe just a bunch more offers - but in any event, the list shows many more offers remaining out then we have slots - even at the higher estimates for number of likely signees.

Do they hit a certain number at certain positions and then just pull the remaining outstanding offers - how does that work?

The short answer is yes. If they want say one more OL they will probably reach out to all the guys they have outstanding offers to and inform them that they have one more spot and to commit or run the risk of being left out.

This said, if a really highly ranked player wants in at the end of the process no matter what they have said, chances are they will find a spot.

That said...every year teams that only have 15 spots open sign around 25 kids and find a way to make it work. Sometimes recruits are grey shirted, sometimes commits don't qualify and sometimes current players don't have their scholarships reupped. To be a top program we have to be willing to trim some fat and step on some toes.

The other site says Fontana might visit again, because he didn't get to meet Coach McKnight when he came up the first time. If we got him, I'd have to think that would be it for offensive linemen, right?

Methinks if Fontana visits again, we've got a 95% chance that we'll get him.

Samoans are spread all around the country-there are plenty of top Samoan recruits who do not live on the Island

Sounds tasty. Might be one of my favorites, too.

Last time we got a top-five player at ANY position.... Dickerson/Waggoner?
