Expony Golf Thread

Postby expony18 » Fri Jul 04, 2008 11:56 pm

So I decided to take up golf about 4 months ago. That's probably not the most accurate statement, but I can honestly say I had only golfed about 10 times since high school. However, I have now lost about 30 pounds since college, so golf is a lot more enjoyable and I am starting to take it pretty serious. In March, I was shooting mid to low 90's, and the past month I have dropped my score to consistent mid 80's (and these aren't scores from muni's). Unfortunately I have hit a plateau... The last few times I have been out I have been terribly inconsistent. Monday I played 36 holes and shot 88 (8 over on the front and back) and 86 (12 over on the front and 2 over on the back). Tuesday I shot an 87, which included 3 double bogeys, and wednesday I was 11 over after 9, but that was after 3 hours on the range and putting green.

I know it is starting to get hot out, and since I carry my own bag when I play, I know the heat is starting to have an impact on my game... i guess I'm just frustrated and looking for some tips

Don't get so frustrated on the windmill hole and look out for the dinosaur's teeth.

unfortunately for me, my game hit the David Duvall devil and ive been searching for my swing for the past 3 years. best advice i can give is make sure your short game is on par (no pun intended).

work on the putting because im sure you can cut atleast 3-5 strokes off your game from putting better. played throughout middle school and highschool and the one thing that always hunted me was putting.

and the heat along with carrying the bag can affect your game a little but thats all mental. dont ware yourself out though. its always good to get work in on the range and then go out and play but sometimes that will wear you out so much you start shortening your swings when you get tired...

just remember, bend your knees, keep your head down, and always enjoy a cold one after a great hole.

plenty of swing doctors in Dallas to help you. If you're serious with the time you invest in golf, invest some $$ as well.

A very good friend of mine played football through the collegiate level and ultimately wound up with 8 different surgeries. He still laments as to whether he'd have been better off trading all those early morning sprints, workouts, 2-a-days, and spring ball from 7th grade on for an intense golf coach, and invested the same amount of hours, weeks months and years honing a golf game. Four years of college football would've been replaced with four years of free golf at top courses across the country.

Despite the way Tiger / Bubba / John D. / etc. take a swipe at the ball, golf is not a game of strength / brute force...as I have aged, my golf game has improved, mainly due to the fact that I have adopted the "Freddie Couples" approach..smooth and easy. Golf is about timing / balance / flow. I would suggest your swing thought should one of trying to copy Freddie, or Larry Mize, Luke Donald..keep it simple, keep it smooth and be cool...enjoy and play well. Long Live Charlie Adams.

Take up softball and bowling now. You want to stay as high on the Tony Kornheiser death spiral as you can. Baseball, then softball, then bowling, then golf, then dead. I'm halfway there.

or, for every stroke you go over par, you chug a beer...that will either make your game better or turn you into an alcoholic
