Football Walk-ons 2008

Postby No Quarter » Mon Jul 07, 2008 11:30 am

Sometime back it was announced that the HP quarterback would walk-on this fall. Are any other names available now?

I don't think we'll know for sure until the August reporting date mentioned by Stallion on another thread.

Hasn't Ekolu Soon started taking summer school classes at SMU already? He's the walk-on from Hawaii.

Yep, and I almost added "unless they already enrolled in summer school." The scout site showed a picture of Soon moving in.

There are a couple of players from OU who will be getting their grad degrees at SMU. From what I understand they aren't bad players and wanted to use their 1-2 years of eligibility to play for Jones.

Perhaps QB Keith Nichol? The OU backup who was contemplating transfer. (This is speculation)

ANSWER OF MY OWN QUESTION: Nichol transferred to Michigan St.

Adrian Peterson left Norman with a year of eligibility remaining.
I bet he's got enough left in the tank that taking a risk on him would be well worth it.

Remember that Graduate Transfer Rule has been modified. Here's recent discussion with regard to GT's QB. What makes this improbable is -Who in the hell graduates from OU with eligibility left?

With Bennett’s transfer, the NCAA gets it right

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Sometimes, common sense wins out in college sports, and it appears to be happening with transfers like Taylor Bennett’s.

I checked with the NCAA about Bennett’s transfer to Louisiana Tech to see how common such transfers are. Remember that the NCAA’s member schools overrode a rule allowing players like Bennett, who graduated from their original school, to transfer and play immediately at another Division I-A school. That wasn’t the end of it, however.

Those who voted to override the rule were worried it would create a system of free agency, where players who were able to graduate before exhausting their eligibility would be “re-recruitedâ€
