Peruna's Law

Anything that can f*ck up SMU football, will f*ck up SMU football. Actually you can say that about SMU athletics in general.
Back off Warchild seriously.

A&M has Maroon Out (everyone wears maroon).

We could have White Out. Get it. whiteout. nevermind.

Our biggest tradition is parents spending a ton of money on tuition.

1. Pop the collar on your Lacoste shirt
2. Drink way too much beer
3. Brag about how much money daddy makes
4. Pass out drunk before the game starts

That should do it right?

I think he was asking about the fans' traditions and not the players' traditions.

I thought he was talking about USC student's traditions!

In other words, pretty much what you do out at SC games

No reference to "Peruna's Law" there.

Another tradition at SMU is we have 4 fight songs.

First of course is "Peruna". A variation on "She'll Be Comin' Round the Mountain". There are four versions of "Peruna" that may or may not be played all at once. This is known as "The Peruna Sequence". The words to "Peruna" are very very simple, but no one ever sings them, we just clap.

Second is "Pony Battle". This is played regularly, usually during time outs and alternates with "Peruna". This is a more mainstream college fight song with real words that nobody bothers to learn.

Third is "Loyalty Song". A nice little tune that is played seldom. It also has real words.

Fourth is "Mighty Mustang Thunder". This is hardly performed. I have not heard it in several years, but I understand it is still around somewhere.

Other traditions at SMU.

The band changes uniforms at halftime. When you attend a game, look for the change.

The band ends all halftime shows with their tradmark Diamond M.
Just send 'da money.

One of the Peruna Handlers trips and does a face plant into the turf at least once a season, so I think that should be considered a tradition at this point.

Two tweaks: It's "Pony Battle *CRY*", and Peruna isn't really a variation, it's just "She'll Be Coming Round the Mountain" in different styles. I think the SMU songs hold up very well against "Fight On" and the endless USC song of which I don't know the name, but YMMV.

While we're at it, the Mustang Band has three descriptions/mottos/whatever:

(1) Best Dressed Band in the Land
(2) The Hub of SMU Spirit (also the spokes, rims, tires, ...)
(3) 96 Guys and a Doll (archaic, never used, not just because of "Doll" but also because 96 has been a high number)

There are three Mustang Band CDs of marching band music, and a fourth of Texas Swing they did with the Light Crust Doughboys. One of the band CDs is from around 2000, and the others are reproduced from the 1960s.

There are more than three Mustang Band CDs (not including the collaboration with the - High Road on the Hilltop). Of the top of my head, there is:

Mustang Jazz
Mustang Jazz Vol. 2
Mustang Jazz at the Cotton Bowl
Red Hot & Blues
Peruna 2001

There are a few other albums that I have not seen on CD:

Strictly Seventy-Four
Southwest Conference Jazz
Mustang Mania Jazz
Mustang Jazz- On the Road

A former MB member gave me all of his vinyl records a few years ago--several but I don't know how many or which ones. I'll have to sort through them one of these days. I haven't listened to them in a long time. Several variations of Peruna. Nothing gets me going like Peruna, loud.
