I was in Orlando the day they broke the loosing streak to Marshall. The goal post game down it was the greatest feeling I can remember in sports. (except for that Rudy movie ) See yea Steve!

I started to feel good about it.... then I realized how pathetic the situation really was. Then I thought about how some moron was going to get himself hurt and ruin goal-post tearing-down for everyone. Lo and behold......

In recent years, the Greeks, who'd been some of the main participants, have done Sing Song for parents weekend instead. This year, the university is going to try to place a big emphasis on Pigskin Revue and not have competing events.

Since you mentioned parents' weekend, my favorite tradition when I was a student was for my mom to come into town and drop a bunch of money at Harold's or any other store in HP Village. It still cracks me up to see all of the girls walking to the quad on Saturday of parents' weekend with shopping bags and their families.

Some extremely dedicated Mustang Band members also wear Hawaiian shirts on Fridays in honor of former band director Cy Barcus.

Sad thing is when you saw them in the quad the game was being played in the stadium.

The game hadn't started yet. We were drinking mint juleps on the Boulevard. We don't miss kickoff.

Is it not the oldest Homecoming tradition still being practiced? This year will be the 76th year.

I think my girlfriend and I practiced the oldest tradition in the Coliseum Parking Lot** the evening of homecoming.

** For you younger than I (all of you) the CPL was a parking lot on the south side of Moody that was just a dirt lot at the time and was a " campus security partrol but do not enter" area where students could go to be "alone" with their dates. Ain't this a great country.

And if you're curious about us:
http://www.mustangband.com

We are the HUB OF SMU SPIRIT and by far the most tradition-riddled organization on campus.

On our website is also a couple of recordings, including Pony Battle, Varsity, and Peruna sequence.

Few realize that Cy Barcus invented the Hawaiian shirt, or at least popularized it. Who would have thought they are actually Texan shirts?

They were originally designed to cheer people up during the Great Depression, thus the bright colors and happy prints. You may not have had a job, but hey that's a cool shirt!
