Is it really from the crowd? Most of the noise sounds piped in. How about the cheerleaders do their jobs and actually lead the crowd in some cheers instead?

That would require fans actually chantings with them, which never happens. At least this way you can get fake crowd noise.

Agreed. The cheerleaders are far too lazy in their attempts to direct the excitement of those than have given up hope. A better remedy would be for the band to play more than half the game.

(3rd down thunder) is the only time our fans make noise when our defense is on the field......not that there has been much to cheer about........ the kids love it when people are stomping their feet on the stands

But our fans can do that themselves...they don't need piped-in noise and a video of horses stampeding to accompany them.

If it does return, we'll have a new PA guy introducing it since Dan Bell is no longer doing our games. I hope his health is OK. Is that Dallas Desperados guy doing all of our games in all sports now?

In defense of the cheerleaders, at least half the time they're leading cheers for what's left of the student body. And the dance team is on the opposite side, ostensibly leading us all in dances

As someone who attended almost all of the Desperados home games if that is true he will bring something "special" to SMU athletics. Her certainly has no shortage of enthusiasm in any situation.

The primary (although there were others) problem with 3rd down thunder was that no one ever explained what it was. I sat through a game or 2 listening to the ridiculous annoucement for 3rd down thunder that was always met with stark silence. Then came the TCU game that we won a couple of years ago. Midway through the 4th Quarter as things were really getting exciting, workers at the stadium started handing out those "thunder sticks" throughout the stands and people started banging them together. Now I think the students have them at the beginning of the game but the west side of Ford never has them. During the TCU win in the last quarter, the noise was actually loud and when 3rd down thunder was announced everyone banged those stupid sticks together and at least I finally understood what 3rd down thunder was. I have not seen another one of the blow up thunder sticks on the west side of Ford since the TCU win. I do not really care for them, but if they are going to do 3rd down thunder, someone needs to supply the thunder.

that's good, I guess. Mavs guy has lots of enthusiasm too. However, as of now my most recent memory of a Mavs game was him enthusiastically saying "coming into the game for the Mavs....J J Barrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrea!." Followed by turnoverturnoverturnoverblowoutloss. Wait a second...I guess either way such enthusiasm would be perfect for us.
