Soccer Coach Rumor Mill

Post by mustangbill67 »

One name I have picked up as a strong candidate is John Hackworth. Based on what I know of him, he would be an excellent choice. This is a short cut and paste bio.

John Hackworth is an assistant coach for the United States Men's National Team and also oversees technical aspects of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy. Prior to this appointment, he was the head coach for the US Under 17 Men's National Team at USSF's IMG Soccer Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Hackworth joined U.S. Soccer after four seasons at the University of South Florida (1998-2002), where he elevated the small Florida school into the nation's elite. In Hackworth's first season at the helm of the program in 1998, the Bulls won the Conference USA Regular Season and Tournament Championships, earning him Coach of the Year honors. Hackworth led South Florida to their best season ever in 2001, as the team climbed to No. 8 in the rankings, won a school-best 15 games and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. While at South Florida Hackworth also chaired the Conference USA Head Coaches Committee and served on the Division I Men's Soccer Player Development/Pro Liaison Committee.

Another coach I have seen mentioned as a possible candidate is Bobby Clark, the very successful head coach at Notre Dame and former head coach at Stanford. This is all just rumor.

IMHO we don't need DIV 1 coaches who just win their conferences. We need a coach that has NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TEAMS. If they haven't won the 'big one' we are no better off than before.

To be completely honest, it's going to be incredibly hard for us to be any better off than before. We just need to go for the best candidate we can get.

With our past success I just believe that 'second best' will not do. We need a coach that is a proven D-1 producer of championship teams. Difficult to obtain- perhaps but look at our success in hiring JJ.

I heard we were close to a deal with Jose Mourinho until Inter Milan stepped in and snapped him up.

Yes, however, I understand that Chelsea gave him a very bad job reference. Just goes to show you that we still can't trust the Russians.

Also heard that Tom Hicks was trying to dump "Mr. Un-be-liev-able" Rafael Benetez on us although this would be OK if both Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres were part of the deal. On second thought, NCAA would probably frown on Gerrard and Torres.

I know you are not Sir Alex as he is still around, but are you Sir Matt Busby. These are the two greatest Man U managers ever.
