The only championship he could win is the CUSA Championship. He can't win the SEC because he won't be playing in that conference.

i'm pretty unfamiliar with the rules of recruiting so i'm sure this is a terrible question but i'll go ahead and ask anyway. since this guy has now signed with smu is there any way that he can break his commitment say if he has an incredible year and gets noticed by the bigger programs?

He hasn's signed. He's given a commitment meaning that he intends to sign with us on national signing day in Feb. of 2009. However, any program that sees him can come in and try and take him away from us if they are persuasive enough. That's why these commitments are non-binding. He definitely can switch.

It also depends on how much these kids are committed to us. If they are, they usually tell most schools they aren't interested. Others may listen to what is said and could change their mind.

What a waste. After Ryan won the SEC Championship last year when the starting QB was hurt (winning MVP in the game), he has only himself to blame. I hope Padron would eventually win SMU a conference championship game like Ryan did for LSU. While I am not a big SLC fan, I will be checking out some SLC games for sure this year.

Exactly, and Nick Stephens of Flower Mound who signed with Tennessee a couple of years ago never threw a pass as a junior. Also, Greg McElroy who basically had the same resume as a junior for Carroll did the same thing and signed with Alabama.

Those teams gambled on their physical abilities and their hype. We have yet to find out if those kids can play at the DI level.

And while you can site examples of gambles that paid off, the fact remains that a decision made with less information is by definition a greater gamble than a decision made with more information. That's what gambling is. This isn't an opinion, just a fact. Yes, sometimes gambles pay off, and we're all hoping that this one does. But there it is, a gamble none-the-less.

This really isn't that tough to understand, I don't know why you're acting like taking a flyer on this kid is a bad thing.

Well JJ had him at camp and I guess that was a sufficient basis for him to make an offer. Somehow I do not believe JJ believes he is a gamble.

Being from California, I don't know Texas high school football very well but I know how good the program is at SLC, which makes me optimistic about this kid. It sounds like they have turned out a ton of D1 QB's some of which have done very well(Chase Daniel) and have yet to prove themselves( Dodge and McElroy). The kid comes from a good pedigree, has a good frame and JJ's praises. That being said, welcome to SMU Mr. Padron.

haha Alabama and Tennessee sign a couple of 5 Star QBs a couple of 4 star QBs and maybe a high 3 star and let them fight it out then some genuis like you claims that 4 out of the 5 were busts. LSU wins a National Championships and SEC Championship with their "bust". Then they go get some more like the No. 1 QB in this years class. Not to mention the No. 1 QB picked in the NFL Draft a couple of years ago. Get it Einstein.
