Orlando Sentinel on SMUNotes from Media Day in Memphis:
-- SMU Coach June Jones, who is poised to begin his first year leading the Mustangs after taking Hawaii to a BCS bowl berth, was arguably the most popular person at the media day. SMU senior running back DeMyron Martin said the Mustangs are used to Jones getting all the attention. "He's a celebrity coach," Martin said. "We've never had a celebrity coach before, but he's definitely it. Everyone wants to talk to him. When we're walking around campus or out wearing our football stuff, everyone is excited about the season and asks us about Coach Jones." Martin said he doesn't mind the focus on Jones. "At least their (NOT TO INTERRUPT, BUT ... HOW DO YOU WORK FOR A PAPER LIKE THE ORLANDO SENTINEL AND NOT KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN "THEY'RE" AND "THEIR"?? OK, BACK TO DeMYRON'S COMMENT) talking about us again," he said. -- Several players said coaching changes are injecting energy into several programs. SMU defensive tackle Serge Elizee, who is from Miami, said the Mustangs are excited about Jones' arrival. "Not only are guys coming to all of our voluntary seven-on-seven drills this summer, they're staying afterward to put in extra work," Elizee said. "I've never seen that before. They're excited about this season." PonyFans.com ... is really the premier place for Mustang talk on the Web.

Re: Orlando Sentinel on SMU
And how can you justify being a copy editor for that paper and miss it?
Well played, George.

Because The Orlando Sentinel is a Mickey Mouse-type operation.
Pun intended?
you have to ask? ![]()
You must be from Pluto?
the "slantinel" routinely gives readers in the metro orlando area a reason to wish for competition...to the point that Tampa's paper has made inroads on Orlando Sentinel markets in the Disney/Universal/Sea World tourist areas.
The ongoing feud with O'Leary is interesting in that UCF is steering clear of the OS and any media organizations that associate ( print tv or otherwise ) with the OS. Being shut out of the rising show in town ( excluding the Orlando Magic )at UCF means that circulation issues the paper has faced in recent years are not being helped by a bleed/lead philosophy and shoddy documentation. Good friend gave sage advice when dealing with OS: "They're job is not getting the news right...it is about selling newspapers." True enough in my limited ( 17 years in Orlando ) dealings with those folks. Once that premise is established and accepted, you have lowered your expectations of 'journalism' in Central Florida. The exception was Jerry Greene in Sports...top notch reporter, hilarious guy. stable-boy for the four horsemen of the apocalypse
O.K. I had to laugh at your friend's sage advice...you just used "they're" (conjunction of 'they are') in place of "their" (plural possessive)....time to go back to study hall, peruna81. ![]()
Unless Martin wrote his quote out for the author, which I highly doubt, I'll blame the author for the grammatical error.

with tongue firmly fixed in cheek I can honestly say that the 'error' WAS intentional, meant to tease out a response. they're-cont. 'they are' their-poss. ppf I am easily amused how posts move off topic, from the sublime to the absurd...after a day of three services, a funeral, meeting with deacons,I fully admit my attempt at closeting the same humor as the writer's of the OS fish-rap gleaned little response. Glad to see YOU did so well in Gram/Comp your freshman year, though ! BTW, the picture with the cheerleader is a hoot...bet you always got that look when a cheerleader kissed you. back to 'minister of sorrow' mode. stable-boy for the four horsemen of the apocalypse
Dead on. I'm in Orlando and rarely pick up this rag.
Has UCF started talking to the Sentinel again? Or are they still locked in some kind of a grudge/staredown?
Plagiarize!
Let no one else's work evade your eyes. Remember why the good lord made your eyes. So don't shade your eyes, just Plagiarize, plagiarize, plagiarize! (Only be sure always to call it, please .... "research.")
