I saw those pictures and thought Alamo Stadium in San Antonio may be along the same lines. Not the Alamo Dome, but the HS stadium where I believe the Gunslingers also played.

I don't think it's all that great looking. And I certainly can't believe it costs $24m... How much did Ford cost? $40m?

i posted a thread about the renovations awhile back... the improvements are a huge improvement. The new facilities they have in the end zone are as good if not better then SMU's

Thanks for the pic, Calallen. While the brickwork does remind me of Tulsa's place, I think I have to give the edge to San Antonio on the seating bowl.

Interestingly, on October 5, 1940 (the year that Alamo Stadium opened), the stadium hosted its first college football game.

Texas A&M defeated Tulsa by a score of 41-6.

Hello Pony Fans! I'm glad to see you found my pictures.

A TON of construction has been going on around campus (nearly $150,000,000 worth in the last 5 years) at TU. New apartments, a new entrance, a tennis center (hosted the 2008 NCAA), new facilities for administration and classes, and a new PAC coming soon. Of course we also are renovating our stadium (the end zone facility is not including in the $24million, it was a project a year early at $9mil. Amazing facility though). An investment of private money in a private school (as you well know).

The renovations will reduce our capacity a ton, to be sure. From a high of near 55,000 to around 30,000. That has been a point of contention among many fans. But, looking at it honestly, we sell out only when someone who will swamp our stadium (in orange or crimsons) comes to visit anyway. Our stadium will still have more seats than students + alumni in the metro area (we only have 4K students).

Tulsa averaged 25,000 people per game (SMU averaged 17,500). Reality doesn't dictate a large stadium I'm afraid. So we opted to make it as nice as we can. Working with what was there we will have a top notch stadium, luxury boxes, loge seating and field (the new turf is amazing). The stadium was totally gutted from bathrooms to concession stands, turf to seats - but saved the original 1930 facade. It will also include a new HD video scoreboard to replace our much loved crap-o-tron. Everything will be new.

It won't be near the biggest, but from the locker rooms, to the luxury boxes, to the press, to the average Joe in the end zone the stadium should provide a really positive game day experience. I'd rather have a damn nice stadium of 30,000 full of fans than a larger stadium half full anyway. We can always add on as needed.

ps. Alamo Stadium is indeed impressive. But it is a publicly owned facility built with federal WPA money. It is NOT a high school stadium per se though it is shared by 8 high schools in the area. And it "only" seat 23,000.

I'm sure Tulsa Union's place is right up there. Their basketball arena puts a lot of CUSA barns to shame.

Very true. Especially if they are still selling 3.6% up there?

Watched the video that Stallion posted and one thing to note is that part of the $24mm is coming from seat licenses. Thank God we didn't have to do that for Ford. Leaves more money for the tailgate party.
