More numbers from the weight room

Post by PonyPride »

Talked to strength coach Vic Viloria today. He started testing the guys on squats this morning in the split sessions (some lift before they run in the afternoons). Keeping in mind that Vic has the guys doing what he calls "full squats" (bar across the back of the shoulders, and dropping down low enough that the thigh is "beyond parallel" to the ground - so the angle in the knee tightens up to below 90 degrees), three guys stood out:

• Chase Smith: Added 25 pounds to his personal best, squatting 595 pounds.
• Serge Elizee: One of the guys Vic has singled out as being among the hardest workers this offseason, squatted an even 600 pounds.
• Cole Beasley: Maybe the most impressive of the group, if only because at his listed 171 pounds, he's more than 100 pounds lighter than Smith and Elizee ... and still squatted 500 pounds.

I squatted earlier in the office to pick up a pencil. It was also below the 90 degree angle.

Were you injured in the process?
Maybe you should arrange a spotter next time.

No injuries today, but pushing it tomorrow with pencil, pen and paper clip. Secretary will do the spotting.

Final testing on power clean and bench were earlier this week. How did you do on those?

I power-cleaned the bench with Pledge. Worked like a charm.

I sat on a bench while waiting for the bus at Mockingbird Station.
We've never lost the tailgate.

Is there an inside joke here I don't know about?
A 171-pound man squatted 500? As an incoming freshman?
