this attitude is so ridiculous. One of the greatest things about the SWC was that everyone knew everything about all the other team's players. You knew SMU would have trouble with Gabe Rivera who could outrun RBs sideline to sideline. You knew SMU would have to stop UT or A&M before they got to the 50 or Russell Erkleban or Tony Franklin would bomb a FG from over 65 yards away. You feared the backfield of Street, Worster, Koy and Bertleson and wern't particularly surprised when they set an NCAA Record as alll 4 ran for 100 yards in a single game against SMU (Texas vs. SMU, Nov. 1,. 1969 (Jim Bertelsen 137, Steve Worster 137, James. Street 121, Ted Koy 111). You simply had no idea how to stop Michael Singletary who broke helmets while chipping in 20 tackles a game. That familiarity brought rivalry. and people to the games. That is what is missing from CUSA and while many older alumni can really relate to CUSA. I bet these days 98% of SMU fans couldn't name 3 players on the Rice team. The more we hear about other CUSA opponents the more cohesive the conference will become and the better the rivalries will be. That's one reason I will continue to post relevant info about CUSA teams.
