Could Emmanuel Sanders be

Postby davidsmu94 » Sat Jul 26, 2008 9:33 am

our best football player since the death penalty? Charles was a great running back, but he was around for only a year or so. Sanders has been money. Thoughts?

Unfortunately I think if you were grading players for the best execution of technique at their position, I really think it might be Morestead. Forget his great punt average or his hang-time-check out the unreal number of coffin corner kicks. Otherwise, Bordano. Sanders hasn't proven it yet so I'd rather wait to claim him the best. But it appears he is physically ready and positioned in the Run and Shoot to have a shot at the greatest season for an individual player since the DP. As long as Willis is the QB.

Sanders could end up being the guy, but don't sleep on J-Will either. IF (and it is by no means a certainty) he is June's QB this season and next- he will go down as easily the greatest Post DP player and one of the All-Time SMU Greats. Kid has 50+ TD's in his first 2 seasons with a lame duck coach. Imagine the potential with Jones at the helm....

Bordano, Luke Johnson, Swanny ...

There's no way to pick one guy. It's pointless.
(Don't forget the O-line, either.)

I agree with Stallion on Morstead. The guy is an NFL-caliber punter and is probably the best overall talent at one position we've had (although I'I won't deny my ignorance of the players we had during the early and mid 90s).

I think we'll see Morstead get some national attention this year, riding the coattails of the June Jones story...if he has a great year he might even end up being drafted like Sepulveda a few years back.

I have to take the easy road and throw down the name of the NFL-er who just came form our midst, Justin Rogers.

But as far as E being the best goes, I'll say this - ask me again in December. Numbers are just numbers, unless they're in the W column.

Do I think he's extremely talented and athletic? Yes. But the "best" isn't always the one with the most yards per game, touchdowns, or the fastest 40 time. To me, the "best" is the one who can chalk up the most wins regardless of any other statistic.

I would have to go with Morestead. If you are going to talk receiver wouldn't you have to start with Jason Wolf's numbers first?
