WR commits to SMU!

Post by Hoofprint »

Coach Bennett has landed his first commitment, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Sonora (Texas) WR James Elliott (6-3, 200) chose SMU over Kansas State, Texas Tech and Baylor.

Congratulations, Coach - keep it up

This is a great pick-up for the Ponies. Elliott is big and fast (runs between a 4.4 and 4.5). Unlike Jay Taylor, who has size and speed but was knocked for running unprecise routes, Elliott runs very clean, exact routes. He accelerates out of his breaks very quickly, and has great hands. He and Barnett and Billups may be the stars of the class, or at least of those who have committed so far.

Think of the choices our QBs will have.

All I know is I'd love to be a QB at SMU next year, assuming the offensive line holds up.
Just don't take the ball out of ShanD's hands!

A 200 pound-er than can run 4.4-4.5?!? That's a downfield blocker that can do some damage.

There's going to be a couple of sore CBs if they try to keep that cat from running free off the line of scrimmage.

A 6-3, 200-pounder who runs a 4.4? Sounds like whatasteve. (Although Dirty Bird would suggest that whatasteve only runs a 4.4 en route to a burger joint.)

Yes, and Whatasteve certainly knows his routes... to First & 10, to Burger House, to Fudruckers, etc.

Coaches claim this kid has run a 4.3 for them. One of the fastest white kids you'll ever see!

4.3 is extremely fast - regardless of color.

PerunaPunch, are we going to start this again? You have to get your accusations right - I've been to Burger House exactly once. And it was very average. If you and Dirty Bird insist on hassling me because of my girth and because I can out-cook you any day on a grill, that's fine, but get my destinations accurate.

Looking at GrapevineMustang's list - all those guys, plus Anthony Barnett? That's a hell of a group of wideouts. Almost looks like Florida West.
