ponyboy wrote:Oh now that's rich. You're not excited about June Jones and what he brings to the Hilltop? That's the real wow here. I cannot believe we've allowed Eyeores such as yourself to make us forget how much fun this is going to be. Top national coach now on the Hilltop, Run and Shoot, Frank Gansz, national attention. Remember?
Who said I'm not excited about June Jones and what's in store? I am. But I'm not letting the fact that this recruiting class is vintage C-USA dampen that. I actually think this is a good class for SMU at this stage in development. It's heavy on the line, takes a few gambles, but at the end of the day, it's pedestrian C-USA. That's not a bad thing, but wishing it weren't so isn't going to change that, and I'm not going to let it "stifle the natural excitement everyone on here ought to be feeling in anticipation of the upcoming season." That's your gig aparently.

I'm not here to stifle. Quite the contrary. I am here to tell you that it's ok not to obey Stallion when he says you can't enjoy the prospects for the upcoming season. It's a great time to be a Mustang and to hell with anyone who tries to take that away. Here's a hint: He's not just reporting. He has an agenda.

Maybe I'll start listening to him when he buys his first jock.

My Agenda is Top 25 in every Sport. I have higher expectations for this Program than anyone of this board. Don't know why more don't expect more from the Program.

Because expectations can only lead to disappointment. Lack of expectations can only lead to pleasant surprises.

But aren't you happy when expectations are met? Or even exceeded?

With the proven coaching staff, motivated players, and excited fans SMU is headed in the right direction. We may not be top 25 this year but we will grow and develope into one in the near future. Remember, Rome was not built in a day. If our fans surround our players and coaches with positive support top 25 may get here sooner than you think. I know I sound like a dreamer but I believe we got it right this time.
Wins bring the Recruits we want. So PONY UP and enjoy. GO MUSTANGS!

Didn't someone say a few months ago when JJ was hired to have "no expectations for this season?" I think it is best for our psyches to not have high expectations until we've been given a good reason to have them. JJ changes a lot for us but his guys need to get it done on Saturdays.

It is quite impossible to have no expectations. You might expect that we'll go 0-11, but that's still an expectation. I'm expecting we'll pick up 5 wins this year and hoping for better. I also expect a heckuva lot of fun with JJ at the helm.

Your agenda first and foremost is to show the world how damned smart you are and how the rest of us don't know our [deleted] from a hole in the ground. Open yourself to the admittedly remote possibility that you don't know everything. And, as others have pointed out, predicting gloom and doom for the past twenty years has paid off well. Any idiot sticking to pessimism has been made to look like a frickin' genius. Well my friend that's about to change. Be interesting to see how your position miraculously changes when JJ turns this thing around.

Orsini took a leap in the wrong direction by letting Schellas go. My guess is that men's soccer was our highest rated / highest profile sport.
SteveO took two steps forward with June, but slid at least 1 or 2 steps backwards botching men's soccer. Not to say the new coach won't do well, be we arguably had the best men's soccer coach in the nation on staff.

I'm sure Steve O. tried, but he may have just wanted to try the pros. You can't stop a person from leaving if they are ready for a new challenge.
