Postby ponyfan08 » Sun Aug 03, 2008 9:27 pm

Skins vs Ind.

Colt 7/8 112 YDS. 1 TD

I think he will be a nice project for Jim Zorn and the Redskins

He was sensational.

A far cry from the folks who ripped him for a lack of accuracy.

He's a long way from being ready to start in the NFL, but Coach Jones and Coach Morrison should be proud — Brennan looked fantastic.

What's funny about those that questioned his accuracy is the kid hit 68.0% as a Sophomore, 72.6% as a Junior and 70.4% as a Senior for a career total of 70.5%...

The other thing that showed up again tonight is his ability to make plays when things break down. This was evidenced on his second TD pass when he rolled right and found the guy for the score...

The kid has the IT factor... teammates love him, they rally around him, and he's been a winner everywhere he's played. He's in a perfect situation right now with Zorn... I hope he once again proves everyone wrong...

If Coach Morrison can get Willis (or whoever starts) to play anywhere close to how Brennan played tonight, the SMU record book will be rewritten.

I just hope he doesn't do so against my Cowboys. Maybe the Deadskins should trade him to Baltimore or something.

Remember he's fighting to be the third string QB. Campbell and Collins both looked pretty sharp as well. Absent a slew of injuries or Campbell just fizzing out, you won't see Brennan against your Cowboys this year.

Nice game out of him, and I hope he does well, but hold up just a minute on even naming him their starter. The Colts are known for coasting through the preseason...notice how few of their starters were playing on offense AND defense?

I think Brennan will be a decent QB in the NFL, but he's got a ways to go. Then again, it's not like he has much of a starting QB to overcome out there.

I am not a homer for Jwill, but I do have to point out that kid has ALREADY been rewriting the SMU record book prior to JJ ever getting here. JJ should send things to a whole 'nother level for Willis but that would only build on the rather remarkable start to his career thus far.

Some of my old teammates and I had dinner a few weeks ago with June and he really believed Colt would do great in the NFL. He said Colt's combine was not reflective of his abilities. So far so good

Colt was the only QB credited with a perfect score in the passing drills at the NFL combine. This has not happened in modern history at the combine (he didn't run though), and he also handidly won the Quarterback challenge televised by ESPN, skunking Ryan, Booty, and Flacco. He has time to develop, has a great skill set (natural ability and JJ coaching) in a more extreme West Coast type scheme, and has the potential to make it as a pro. If he does well in the NFL, SMUs recruiting (esp. QBs) may indirectly benefit.

Who named him the starter?

You're right, he won't play this year - they'll find an injury that will allow them to stash him on IR and sign another QB with a little experience.

But couldn't you just see Brennan laughing when he looks downfield and sees Roy Williams trying to cover someone?

Hell, that makes me laugh, and my aim's not quite in Brennan's range!
