Anyone in Pony Nation had PRK surgery?

Postby SmooBoy » Tue Aug 05, 2008 5:21 pm

I go under the laser this Friday. Have read much of anticipated recovery and wonder if only poor recovery stories get told. I appreciate any words from those who have experienced this procedure.

Never experienced it, but wanted to post to wish you luck. I'll pray for your speedy recovery.

Thanks CS. I wasn't nervous until I started reading the horror stories about the recovery time/pain/complications. I know it varies, but it still makes me wonder what lies ahead.

A Ponyfan I know who is a retinal surgeon says good luck. Some long term results are not looking too good.

Every medical story I have ever read on the internet has been negative. That being said, I know nothing about the surgery. I wish you well!

Just to give you a ray of hope, my law partner who had coke bottle glasses got Laser eye surgery and has had no problems. Missed I think two days of work and this was 5 years ago. Wears very normal glasses now. I also have a friend who had the surgery and she stopped wearing glasses altogether. One thing to keep in mind. My mom had cataract surgery (also now done with lasers and implant), the post operative drops caused her to have a reaction. It turns out the only people who have had those reactions have Native American blood. So, if your ancestors wore loin cloths and war whooped, and liked to collect scalps, let the doc know.

I had it a year and half ago, and it was incredibly easy. I did it on a Friday, and was ready to roll by Sunday. Just have to be very careful sleeping/showering for the first month. It is amazing waking up every morning for the first month and your vision gets better and better. I'm 20/15 in both eyes, and was legally blind without contacts or glasses before. You made a good decision.

Thanks for all the comments. There was a glitch with my work benefits and I will actually have to postpone the surgery until January '09. I am totally bummed because I was really psyched to do it. I am still interested in anyone else's experiences.

Won't have to watch the season in braille after all.
