Sam Bennett
Has anyone else heard Coach Jones cut Sam Bennett and his scholarship?
Sam wasn't on scholarship but had free tuition as a child of an employee. My understanding is that his continued education was part of Bennett's buyout. I don't know about his status on the team.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

My understanding is that he is still on the team and will complete his education. He just has not reported with the initial group due to limit requirements. He is a short snapper. Although an important position, this is something he can practice on his own and show up when classes begin and hit the ground running.
I have nothing with which to justify my understanding of this other than hearsay, but it makes sense to me, so that is my story and I am standing by it.

I surely hope that his education would have been part of a buyout. as for status on the team, I haven't heard anything, but I'm personally of the opinion that we're committed to June Jones, and whatever he decides to do to put the team in the best position to win. now.
if Sam is part of that, excellent.
however, if JJ thinks that there is someone that he needs more in that roster spot, then that's part of the unfortunate way the world sometimes works.
For the Greater Good!

I had read somewhere that he was the short snapper and we used someone else for deep snapping. I have to admit I do not pay much attention to who has played the position(s) the past couple of years since it has been done so well. Either way, I still stand by my story and will continue to do so even when confronted with facts that say otherwise.
***ADDITIONAL INFO***
If you read the bios on SMUmustangs.com roster, you will learn that Sam snaps on xtra pts and fgs and Jackson Taylor snaps for punts, thus my difference in listing them as short and deep snappers repectively.

To tell the truth...I don't know for sure what he does. On the roster his position is shown as DS. My assumption is that stands for deep snapper. If memory serves me...I believe Sam snapped for field goals and someone else for punts.mrydel wrote:PK wrote:He is actually 6'-1"mrydel wrote:My understanding is that he is still on the team and will complete his education. Maybe he was the captain of the swinging gate formation?
Sam is often referred to as the Short Snapper. I think the football prgram last year and the Spring Wrap-Up listed him as the Short Snapper.
Depth Chart
Short Snapper- Sam Bennett, Jackson Taylor
Deep Snapper- Jackson Taylor, Sam Bennett
Short Snapper is for XPs and FGs. Deep Snapper for punts.
Both are excelllent at their roles
