Mustang All-access question

Since Time Warner refuses to carry CBS college sports, I am looking into buying a subscription to All-access and connecting my computer to my tv. However, before I do this, does All-access cover all away games? How are the announcers for the game? I watched the Rice game at rice a couple of years ago and was not exactly blown away by the coverage. My main question is, is it worth the money to purchase the subscription? I guess I don't really have any other options if I want to watch every game.

On a side note, I have called Time Warner periodically requesting CBS college sports, and they will not do anything with the requests. They simply say we're sorry, but we do not carry that channel

You could always switch to Directv - they're giving free HD-DVRs right now and free NFL sunday ticket. I got them last year (left TWC) and haven't looked back.

I've used CSTV XXL/ Mustang all access. Sometimes the coverage is good, other times it can be frustrating. Sometimes no sound, also got my account screwed up at least once. However if you want to watch the games they broadcast there are not any other choices. So I will continue with it, even with the problems. Most of the time they are OK.

and NFL network, the only channel that beats football to death more than espn

I would switch, but my apartment is pre-wired for TWC and to mount a dish would create more headaches than it's worth.

I have found All Access to be worth the money, but there are sometimes problems. But it certainly beats not seeing it.

Word of warning: I had the bright (I thought) idea of streaming the game video from All Access but streaming the radio for the commentary. TERRIBLE: The game video is at least 10 seconds behind the audio, so you hear the play before it happened.

Will SMU be paying TX21 to broadcast any games like they did last year? That would really be nice.

I had All Access for two years before I canceled it. It was very frustrating. Basketball was worse than football. I often had to call to have them switch on the programming - usually came on 5 to 10 minutes after the start of the event. Quality is bad as well.

The only things that seemed to go well were broadcasts of featured games with CSTV announcers et al. Otherwise you get local broadcast which includes stadium video (like on the stadium big screen) and local broadcasters (away broadcast team for away games) with dead air during commercial breaks.

Even with good internet connectivity (Cable modem, etc.) I would experience freeze frames and have to recycle the connection (which means logging in all over again). The standard screen size and resolution they use is real small - if you increase the size (can go to medium size and full screen) to see the ball better, you get the digital diarrhea due to low resolution - which can be more frustrating than the small screen size. I did connect my laptop to my TV for the memphis game last year (CSTV Broadcast) and had a pretty good experience.

Sometimes I would block all media intrusions on Saturday and watch the archieved version of the game late saturday night/Sunday morning - the quality was a little better and I could bypass the commercials/halftime/etc.

Hope this helps - I suggest you try it - it may be better than the other alternatives.

I agree with this post, especially the last sentence. It is all kind of relative. I have been around long enough that when I lived in upstate New York in the 70's I could never even find out a score of an SMU game. Later as media improved, if I was within 20 ft. of the broadcast station, I could pick up an SMU game on radio. Then a subsequent move to Dallas for a short period allowed in person viewing but a move to Arkansas then knocked me out of everything again except the Sunday morning paper if the game ended before 9:00pm so they would meet Arkansas Dem-Gaz deadlines. Finally I was able to get internet radio broadcast and subsequently the All Access broadcast.

In light of all of that, All Access is great. However, there have been issues on them flipping the switch, and blurred screen if larger than a 2 inch square. Sound does not come on often and the picture would freeze up now and then. But it is great compared to the old alternatives and I suggest for a minimal fee that you try it. I still like it for basketball (although it has more issues than football it seems) since I am never able to make it to a BB game. You can always cancel if unhappy.

BTW, the CSTV (now CBSCollege Sports) customer service people have always been very nice to work with. It is just a shame you get to know them so well due to many times of having to call.

Been there a few times too, friends at both IC and Cornell, very nice in the summer, freezing in the winter.
