Six intriguing games in 2008 (SMU @ Tech #3)http://www.sportsline.com/collegefootball/story/10922864
Aug. 7, 2008 CBSSports.com wire reports Not every game can be Ohio State-Southern California. But thankfully, not every game (yet) has become one of those tedious exercises pitting Heavyweight U. against Directional State, either. Here are six games that, while maybe not monster matchups, are definitely worth a watch for anyone who's a college football fan. 1. Auburn at West Virginia, Oct. 23: It's going to be on a Thursday night, meaning no distractions and everyone can watch as the Mountaineers try for a signature regular-season win and Auburn tries to flourish up north a bit. 2. Kansas at South Florida, Sept. 12: A tasty Friday appetizer for the football bacchanalia to come the following day (headlined by Ohio State vs. USC), this game matches two teams that rose to No. 2 last year before crashing to Earth. It will be easy to write off the loser as a fraud, but both programs seem primed for success this season and beyond. 3. SMU at Texas Tech, Sept. 13: Both coaches consider 40 points to be a perfectly reasonable starting point for an offense. Mike Leach's Red Raiders should be able to best June Jones in his first year with the Mustangs, though it could take all day. 4. Virginia Tech at Nebraska, Sept. 27: There's really no reason this should be on the schedule, but here it is. If new Nebraska coach Bo Pelini has had enough time to reform the Cornhuskers' abominable defense last season, this could be an entertaining matchup for field-position purists. 5. North Carolina at Rutgers, Sept. 11: Get this: A team can prove its bona fides with a win at Rutgers. As recently as four or even three years ago, that statement would be absurd. Now, in 2008, it's a perfectly logical thing to say. Next: Cats and dogs living together. 6. Wisconsin at Fresno State, Sept. 13: Wisconsin, a dark-horse national-title aspirant, finds itself in a tough, nonconference road game. The Bulldogs haven't taken down a big-name program in a while, and are loaded on both sides of the ball. AP NEWS The Associated Press News Service pffffffffffft - I see the ScrewUp Fairy has visited us again.
I really don't see us doing anything in this game because I think our QB is going to spend a lot of time on his rump. But it is nice to dream of a 48-45 win for the 'Stangs.
Don't give the game away yet boys. Any given Saturday, or so the saying goes.
Too bad TTech is early in the season. What Coach Suan said the other day brought some things into perspective for me. It might not technically be a "running game" with pitches and shovel passes and all that, but you don't have to get burned too many times by those kind of plays before a DL has to slow down his pass rush and play a little more disciplined... And then maybe we can take some shots downtown. Plus the writer never said it'd be close... Only that it'd be intriguing. I mean 49-28 wouldn't exactly be close, but it might be intriguing to watch. Not to knock on the Ponies, but I'm going to have to side with the majority of responses so far; this game could get ugly.
I don't know if your offense will be clicking yet and, after watching a couple of Tech's practices this week, I think our's will be. So long as Tech doesn't take this game too lightly (which we have been known to do oh, about once every year) we should be able to pull starters some time in the 3rd quarter.
There is no way in hell SMU is going into Lubbock Texas and beat Texas Tech. Staying within 20 would be nice. Texas Tech is better than SMU at 21 positions. I think Emanuel Sanders would start at Tech this year because Tech is plugging holes (hmm) rebuilding at Receiver. Morestead may be the best in the Country. That's about it. Not one OLM, DLM, DE, QB, RB, LB, Safety or CB would start at Texas Tech. McCann might play. Better at every position on the field.
key word is dream, those are normally derailed when they play UT or OU
