Went to the AM football practice. I was very impressed with Logan Turner. He has the best arm of all 5 QBs throwing accurately with touch or velocity. He also has an undefinable quality about him that I will call the IT factor. He commands attention by his mere presence.

I am puzzled by the fact that he was working with the scout team against what was mainly the 1st team D.

The coaches may like the experience that Willis brings. I like Willis very much myself but I'm not sure he is suited to the R&S. I fear that it will become the Ramon version of the R&S if he is QB in which he will take off running at the first sign of trouble. The R&S demands that the QB make quick reads and deliver the ball. No disrespect intended to Willis. If the coaches feel that Willis is the guy I willl full support it.

When I was down there last yr at homecoming I was told by someone close to the team, based on his being at practice every day, that our best qb was not Willis, but in fact Logan Turner. I almost spit my beer all over this person, but that is what he said.

My new SMU gear has the number 11 on it. So I guess Logan is my newly adopted player. Along with the other # 11.

And I did notice his presence and accuracy Saturday morning.

The guy sitting next to me at practice seemed to realy like Gamso :lol:

That's for 1911.... the year that SMU was founded. The soccer jerseys have #11 as well.

Nacho, I am sure that JJ will start the best QB for his system. If Willis tries to change the system then JJ will change the QB. Unlike Phil, Jones is totally confident in his system and is not going to play someone who is creating his own offense. JJ has made it clear that "accuracy" is the most important criteria and I have never heard him say that scrambling and running were important. If Willis wants to start he is going to have to out pass Turner in game situations. If Turner is more accurate in practice then I anticipate he will get the opportunity to show what he can do under game pressure.

Is there a reason why our jersey is only available in #11? I like the tip of the proverbial hat to history, but couldn't we produce at least one jersey per year with the number of a star player? If there is a surplus, they could mark down the jerseys after the player's career is over

For example, my (admittedly small) collection of jerseys from other schools includes:

Nebraska - red jersey, white #13 (QB Zac Taylor); white jersey, red #20 (RB Marlon Lucky) - bought both after their senior season for 35% off
Notre Dame - green jersey, gold #10 (for Brady Quinn, bought for half-price after his senior season)
Texas - orange jersey, white #11 (QB Major Applewhite...yeah, that jersey is that old)
Virginia - blue jersey, white #11 (WR Billy McMullen, bought for half-price after his injury-plagued senior season); blue jersey, white #7 (QB Matt Schaub, bought for full-price before his senior season)

With all do respect for the history of the institution. That is the most ridicules reason to have only one number on a Jersey. All other institutions that I know of have at least two numbers to choose from. And the high profile players always get the numbers.
Example opening season at Bright house Stadium. 24 for you know who (Kevin Smith) or 7 for the qb. I have 7.

No matter what the original intention of the number 11 was. I am still representing my adopted player with the #11 jersey

At the Friday morning practice I thought he was the worst of the 5 QB's. He has a very awkward throwing motion and I thought his throws were weak and barely clearing the "offensive line". I will admit that none of the QB's impressed me that day, but he stood out as the worst.

As corny as it sounds, I trust JJ to pick the right QB for his system so I've made my peace with the QB situation. My pick would be Willis if for no other reason than he has two years of game experience. I'd hate to run a first timer out against Rice. However, if it is Logan I'll be behind him.

I have watched a lot of the practices this week, and the last couple of workouts all of the qb's except JW, seemed to fall off a bit. Mabey tired arms setting in, and that would be in JW favor, as he made every single workout this summer, and he said yesterday, that his arm felt great.

Regarding Gamso he definitely has some pluses. Has a very nice throwing motion and is big. That said there is something about him that screams redshirt. I can't quite put my finger on it but he looks like he needs more seasoning. Could develop into a very nice backup or eventual started in the years to come. As for Bo Levi and Braden they look almost interchangeable to me. They also need to be redshirted. Just another internet expert trying to help out JJ.
