The Cotton Bowl will host the 1st annual Dallas Lone Star Classic football game between Texas Southern and Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday, Nov. 29 at 2:30 p.m.

The game was an "attractive addition" to the Cotton Bowl because it will be held Thanksgiving weekend, a time when the stadium is otherwise quiet, said Daniel Huerta, executive general manager of Fair Park.

Having TSU and Pine Bluff, two historically black universities, in the matchup, increases the appeal. And it wouldn't be complete without a halftime battle of the bands: TSU's Ocean of Soul will be pitted against Pine Bluff's Marching Musical Machine of the Mid-South (M4).

"We're always looking to bring diverse entertainment, diverse events and diverse attractions to meet the needs of our community because there's so many things that happen here all year round," Huerta said.

BE Entertainment, the event promoter, expects the game to draw more than 45,000 spectators.

Antonio Everette, managing partner of BE Entertainment, said bringing Pine Bluff football to the Cotton Bowl made perfect sense.

"Dallas is the No. 1 destination for Arkansas-Pine Bluff graduates and for the last two years, we haven't had any big classics to go off and play in," Everette added.

UAPB has a loyal following. Unfortunately, in this state, the Beloved Razorbacks play LSU during the Thanksgiving weekend and the entire state is devoted to that game. So there will be almost no mention in the state's media outlets of any other sporting event other than the Beloved Razorbacks' game.
