Ann.. tii.. ci paaa.. tion its making me wait

Postby RoyBell » Tue Aug 12, 2008 11:30 am

I just can wait to football kicks off. All I could think of is this old commercial. It makes me laugh to sing it. I really can't remember if it was a Heinz or Laxative commercial. LOL

On other note I'm Derrius Bell#12 Mom and my house is football maniacs, we're having all kinds of withdrawal going on.

I usually get a daily call from my son telling me how practice went didn't hear from on last night at all. I read this morning in the paper that he was hurt who can fill me in? I'm sure its nothing because he wouldn't called.

It was back to Pettus Practice Field on Monday after a day off.

Coach June Jones added new plays for the Mustangs to learn, which resulted in a few hitches here and there.

"Every time you add, you take a little step back and that's kind of what we did today, receiver-wise anyway," he said. "I thought the offensive line and defensive lines looked pretty good."

Secondary taking shape

Jones usually doesn't concentrate too much on the defense, but couldn't help but notice the improved play of the secondary as it lined up against SMU's top receivers during practice.

"I really like our corners, Bryan McCann and Derrius Bell," Jones said. "Derrius looked like he rolled his ankle a bit, but I think he'll be OK."

Jones referred to a play toward the end of practice, when Bell was banged up while defending a pass. The 5-10 sophomore needed help off the ground, but was soon walking around under his own power.

Rock Dennis and Tyler Jones have planted themselves as the players to beat at safety.

Either Heinz or a laxative commercial, man I would hate to get those mixed up on my burger!

Hope Derrius's ankle is a-ok, we need him out there and are excited to see what he can do this year!

Can't wait!

I'm excited to see what Derrius can do this year, really how the whole defense plays. But Bell and McCann ought to be solid.

I think that our secondary has some real potential to be a major asset.

But then again, I am always positive. Perhaps someone who understands how to evaluate corners and safeties can enlighten me as to how they stack up against other teams.

I am correct that we did not have Dennis last year, but did we see a lot of Bell?

I said earlier that I thought our secondary had some very interesting people in it. We just need to get a decent pass rush so they aren't left on an island.

 Yes I did see the article. Of course my wife saw it first and she printed out a copy at work for me just in case the internet was down that night.

Short of injury I think that he should contribute this year.

And after listening to my wife after Saturday practice we are really hyped about the Rice game. I think that our defense will be tested on the gifted receiver at Rice but I also think that we will pass the test defensively with a (B-) and a win. I gave a (B-) because of it being our first game. I think the grade will go up after that.

Roy: The Hillcrest High Panthers faithful are pulling for Derrius again this year! We expect big things for him this season with the Mustangs!

P.S. "Anticipation" (originally recorded by Carole King) was used in a Heinz Ketchup commercial.

Thanks MrMustang1965 for your support. Derrius is so hype right now that we just have to come him down.

It reminds me of when he was little and he played for the boys and girls club he was on the 8 and under and his brother on the 10 and under they use to sleep with their uniforms on so they wouldn't be late. No matter how many times we told them they had plenty of time they didn't believe it. Pitch dark outside they would walk to the club and come back and say nobody was there yet. We would just laugh.

If our kids all show the excitement and love of the game that Derrius has, we could be in for a special season.

And it all goes back to the parenting. Thanks.
