I don't understand how a 14 team conference really makes sens unless the regular season was extended to 13 games, which I'm not in favor of because it would continue to push back any real talks of a playoff. But maybe that's the idea.

Ive been saying the best solution to solve the so called "problem" within the BCS format is to have the major 6 conferences all grow to 14 teams. 7 in each division with 9 conference games and 3 non conference games. then they all play a conference championship game, making every team in college football play a 13 game max schedule.

the six champs plus 2 others (best non BCS school, undefeated or not) and next best team that didnt win their respected conference) make an 8 team playoff.

I say if the Big 12 knocks, take it in a heartbeat. Are you frickin' kidding me???

SMU, with access to Big 12 recruiting, would certainly eventually compete, just like in the SWC.

I'd like to think we wouldn't do it "just like in the SWC"--one death penalty is enough thank you.

Take heart. The NCAA will never administer it again, right?

There is only one viable candidate to ever get the death penalty again.

re: "when is SMU going to roll out its plan to improve Ford to a Big 12 quality Football facility?"

You must mean to a Big 12 "capacity" football stadium.

SMU has a better quality and newer stadium than many Big 12 Schools.

The stadium at Baylor was built in the 1940's and opened in 1950.

The stadium at Iowa State was built around the time of Texas Stadium more than three decades ago.

We may need more seats, but the quality of our stadium is there.

Trick question. SMU is the only school that can get the DP again. For USC or any other school, it would be the first time.

I think this is pie in the sky to even think SMU would hit the Big 12. When the Big12 was formed TCU was suppose to be in but as some of you know a Baylor grad was sitting in a position able to influence the final decision and Baylor got in. It will be TCU and maybe another team out of the MW

In their opinion - the last thing the Big 12 needs is TCU or SMU. The way the fat boy state schools see it - that would be three small privates dividing up a pie they dont really contribute to, instead of just one (Baylor).

TCU was never close to being chosen by the way - that is a froggy urban myth.

The only way they or SMU get in is if there is another reshuffle and someone leaves. There are no candidates for that because they are all sucking up to a pretty fat momma hog (no Arkansa pun intended).

I once heard that we had a chance of getting in the big 12, but

Pye screwd us by demanding the conference academic standards

would have to be on par with ours?

I think what really was the truth is that at the same time that Pye operating as the Chairman of the SWC President's Council was proposing that all SWC schools abide by Academic Standards in excess of NCAA minimums, the State Schools like UT and A&M were planning to discard Pye SMU and the other private schools coming up with that type of non-sense. Remember at the time the Big 8 which was dominating the SWC was rife with the so called non-qualifiers who were admitted to Big 8 schools below NCAA standards(although not initially eligible). Pye was a complete clown who completely misjudged the athletic landscape.
