I'm really indifferent on who SMU's starting quarterback is this year.

Who are you to say this? How many practices were you at and what are your qualifications to judge QB in the june jones offense? Have you talked to Jones and know what he is thinking?

I am very, very nervous about this QB decision but some of you guys are talking a lot about stuff you don't know anything about.

I didn't state my opinion as fact, or even an opinion I completely agree with, just a nagging feeling I have. How much did the fact that this kid followed JJ to SMU and JJs belief that he can make a superstar out of anyone play into his decision?

June Jones also offered a Junior College QB (Bower at Tulsa) in the same class. I don't think the plan was to start the freshman.

actually in the back of mind I sense there could be a Division 1A transfer who probably wouldn't have been willing to sit on the bench if Willis had two more years. It was rumored on the other board there might be one. That would be for 2009. Keep an eye on this.

I have been watching the same chorus happen during Redskins training camp with Jones disciple Colt Brennan. Brennan has done nothing but win football games, but Zorn has been quick to say that Brennan has mechanical problems that need to be fixed before he's going to see time in a real game. Jones may be saying that Willis has some quirks that just make him unworkable in Jones' system. Perhaps he waits too long on reads, perhaps he takes off too fast, perhaps he holds the ball wrong or delivers it incorrectly. Whatever the problem sometimes its easier to take a raw freshman and coach him up than it is to teach someone who has habits that just can't be undone. Or perhaps, Willis is the guy and we just don't know what's going on.

I bet Jones loves that. "Mechanical problems" from a June Jones QB?

If Jones thinks a qb's mechanics are workable, he won't do much to change them so yes, he may very well have had some kinks that Jones didn't try to change b/c he knew he could be a successful college qb.

BTW, Riley Dodge has a funky hitch in his throwing motion - he takes the ball back really low (bad) and then comes back over to release pretty high (good)...weird

Have I missed the announcement that Jones has picked his top 2?

Scout is saying on their forum that there was just an announcement.

It will be interesting to see how the season starts.

Fairly positive --> Does Justin Willis throw in the towell and transfer? Just from the stories I read on him, this would be par for the course for a guy that may have questionable work ethic/dedication.

Fairly negative --> Does JJ stick with the freshmen, or does he let Willis try and redeem himself? I honestly do think that Willis probably provides the best chance of winning immediately regardless of how good the freshman are going to be eventually.
