Same thing was said about Bill Parcells
I do not normally come onto this board to pick fights but I must say as an avid, true blue blooded diehard HOW DARE YOU. Say what you will about his inability to relate to young players or his struggle to find a franchise quarterback but eventually he found and developed Tony Romo, drafted a franchise running back, tight end, and built us an offensive line and a defense. He left the team in immensely better shape than when he first arrived and as a result Mr. Howdy Wade Phillips can come in, rebuild these guys' self esteem and win. I know that this is an SMU board so I understand there may be people who did not grow up Dallas Cowboys fans but to them I say WATCH WHAT YOU SAY ABOUT ALL THINGS DALLAS COWBOYS. Its like bashing Scientology in Southern California- not a good idea. ...Now, Pony Nation, I apologize for the rant but I was angered by 03Mustangs' comments.
How many playoff games did he win again? Overrated.
Oh yes that old thing. I will be the first to admit that his tenure did not go over as well as expected but I appreciate what he has done for the team. While he did have some bad luck and some setbacks I do not see his time here as a failure. It was a success because now we are in a great position to win many playoff games for years to come. If June Jones leaves this program in position to win championships like Parcells did with the Cowboys then I better not hear anyone bashing June Jones. Ever. End of Story.
All I was saying at first was that Bill Parcells had a ton of hype coming in and everyone expected a Super Bowl, or at least a deep playoff run, in year 2 and it never materialized. I just hope this situation doesn't play out the same...I mean, this is SMU, so whatever can go wrong...

Congratulations! Would you do the same if it was JW? Or have his skins on the wall (in 2 seasons: 7 wins, 3 suspensions, 0 Conference Championships, 0 Bowl berths) earned him a pass?
I would boo JWill if he put up a crappy performance as well. I'm not boing anyone yet, or writing off the season. I hope there's no reason to boo. I have no reason to believe BLM or BS cannot handle the job yet. If we start out 0-6, I find it hard to believe there will be a lot to cheer about, though.
Again, don't boo a kid. Ever.

Well yeah it never materialized because QCar got high and we had to dig up Vinny. But eventually Romo got his shot and they have a shot at a title. Maybe June has better luck and brings in a couple CUSA championships or maybe he gets four stud-laden recruiting classes but stuff happens, we don't win much, he bolts but some other proven coach out there looks at the thing and says "hey I can get this thing in order" and boom, championships with June's guys.
The above scenario is about as close to the Parcells era as could be played out here at SMU. Not only does he leave us with talent but he also makes the situation attractive for another proven coach. So while it may not be JJ who coaches the team to the top 25, he put down the groundwork.

If this kid turns out to be a d-head and parties too much, doesnt work hard, study, bad attitude, etc then I'll boo the 's' out of him if he doesnt play well. However if he works hard, respects his teammates, coaches, fans, is responsible and gives his all on game day, as I know he will do, and yet plays poorly then none of us has any right to boo him.

Booing uses up too much energy that I otherwise would devote to feelings of self pity.
Really though, I'm not sure I understand what good booing does.

I respectfully disagree. These are Kids. JJ is a teacher. He says so himself. What is a "starter in college football", except a student chosen by a teacher to play in a game? It's not a profession. These kids aren't all going pro, and if they do, they can learn to take boos then. There is nothing to be gained for a kid by being booed by some idiot in the crowd who believes he is entitled to better. We're not entitled to anything from these kids. They, however, are entitled to support.
I will add one caveat to my rather simplistic "don't boo a kid" mantra. If the kid is misbehaving, disrespecting the school etc., then boo away. But for falling short of some nebulous standard on the field, he should not be booed.
