QB Decision Discussed on ESPN College Football Live

Postby WE ARE BACK » Tue Aug 19, 2008 3:02 pm

Erik Kuselias and Ed Cunningham talked about it for about 2 minutes. Ed Cinningham says Colt Brennan told him that he was "completely lost" his entire first year in the system. Colt apparently said that you have to play for a complete season in real game situations before he could master the offense . He went on to say it isn't something you can pick up in the classroom or in practice. Ed thinks the decision was likely made because there aren't any expectations for a 9 win season this year so it is a good time to break in the new QB.

Doesn't seem to bode well for us this year.

"Wait 'til next year!.....again."

Junior, unfortunately I tend to agree.

for those that expected quick turnarounds in JJ, that was pretty foolish of you. New system, new coaches, new players.

There will be plenty of growing pains this year, but just think about BLM two years from now as a junior along with our '09 O-Line recruits in place to protect him. Hopefully we will look back and say the decision was well worth it.

thats what many said about JW when he was recruited and before he was about to start his first year playing full time. now look where everything is now.

you can plan the feature in college football but it never really turns out the way you plan it.

I'm with we're back on this one. Get the qb a year or so, let the uglies get uglier, and we're on our way.

True, but allot of that had to do with a mustache man who was supposed to be a defensive guru and had us ranked near the bottom of the NCAA in defense.

Well Colt probably isn't the sharpest marble in the bag and he frosts his tips, so he automatically loses some credibility. Hopefully higher SMU academic standards = smarter student athletes and the learning curve for the JJ system won't be as bad for Bo Levi.

Well if Willis has not been able to pick up the system are we not just as bad off with him at QB (or worse) than with one of the Frosh. And the Frosh will have 3 more years after learning.

My whole concern is the difference in speed of the game between HS and college. If Bo or Braden can learn the system better, that is more important. You will probably see a few more sacks with the Frosh than you would with Willis, but the video I have seen of Bo shows him to be fairly elusive and able to throw on the run so that is a positve. If Bo or Braden can adapt to the speed sooner than later, we will be better off with them if they truly do understand the system better.

I'm wondering how Stallion feels about this one. Bo Levi=star QB of 5A state champ. Stallion is often quick to point out the difference between a kid who was stud in 5A and one who was a stud in 2A.

Colt McCoy was a 3 star Rivals 5.6 at a 2A school; Mitchell was a 5.2 2-star at a 5A school. Apples and oranges or is there anything to be said about 5A vs 2A? Like someone else said, yes Colt was surrounded by 4 and 5 star guys playing against 4 and 5 star guys. Mitchell, by and large, won't be playing against 4 and 5 star guys (except Tech), and certainly won't be surrounded by 4 and 5 star guys.
