This game should be a good help to the psyche of our defense. Good day kind sir!
No way huh? LOL.
Really dude. Texas State? Cmon. You have to be messing with us. Youre not serious! You are? Oh. Wow! Well, uh, I guess we'll see you in Dallas. Good Luck then, & have an embarrassing ride home.
Man, you guys were 1-11 last season. I'm not even going to waste my time on you little boy...

The joke is a D-2 fanatic coming around here and trying to talk smack...
I am not saying that a loss in that game is impossible, sport is a funny think sometimes, but talking smack about how any of the top 10 lower division schools would be expected to beat is is laughable.

I am not predicting a win for Texas State, but you guys may be a tad over confident for a team that won 1 game last year. Our offense is pretty potent. Your team may need to score alot of points to beat us.
That being said, I am glad we are playing you guys this season. I believe June Jones is going to get your program turned around in the next few years.
It looks like Texas State is going to bring a good sized crowd up to Dallas for the game. I look forward to meeting some of you guys.

We have to carefully pick our times to be overconfident.
All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
I think Tulsa will be the second best team we play this year after Tech. Sounds like Clement will be fine for the opener, so I don't feel good about that game. I can't wait to see the contrasts in the Navy game, but I think that will be a tough loss for us. I will never look at the tcu game objectively, so put me down for a win. The rest of our games are a toss-up to me, so I'll say we win the home games (4). That puts me at 5-7.
Thoughts/worries I have going into this season:
1. I'm not sure JWill is the best QB for JJ's system. I like JWill, and I think he has alot of positives, but accuracy is not one of them. And from what I've read, that's JJ's highest priority in his QB.
2. I think the D will be better this year. Obviously, that's not saying much. But I think this staff will prove to be drastically better at putting players at the right position and have them better prepared for the games. I think LB play will be noticeably better. And I like our DE's...alot.
3. I can't express how happy it makes me to hear about the emphasis on special teams. We are very fortunate to have Coach Gansz. IMO, great special teams play does not win games, but it prevents stupid L's.
4. O-line worries me. Not alot of experience, and a new system on top of it. Our limited success these past two years was based on JW escaping alot of pressure and making something happen (which also created alot of turnovers). But JJ will not allow for a freelance QB. So our line has to provide time for whoever our QB is, and I'm just not sure we'll have that this year.
Those points aside, we are in a different era of Mustang football. For the first time in a decade, we have a professional staff that knows how to run a program. To me, that's the most encouraging aspect of SMU football. We have proven winners leading our program now, and they won't let us fail.
Ok, though I predicted 14-0 and hope for that, here is a different take.
First, the assumption is that our defense will have a slightly greater than 10% improvement in defensive ranking. We go from #116 to #100. This is based on returners are slightly better and more experienced than last year This gives us a chance to win 10% more games. So we are now up to 2-10.
Next assumption, our offense is explosive enough to change one of those OT games from a lose to a win. We are now 3-9
Last, emotions and JJ bring that little extra something and we win one of those last minute losses we had from last year. Now we are 4-8.
Now we combine the first prediction with the current prediction and we come up with the formula of 14 wins+4 wins/2 which equals 9. 0 loses+8 loses/2 =4. So we are 9-4. However we round the wins down to fit the schedule. So we now have 8-4 for the season.
Now multiply by the coefficient of perpetual suck (which is .25) and we get the number of wins are 2.
Final prediction after all this math and scientific evaluation comes out to 14-0. Hey, I am really sunshining today.

If you really felt like that then why did you decide to chime in on the board? it doesn't make sense, although I would expect nothing less from a TxSter...
Rice - Win
TX State - Loss
TTech - Loss
TCU - Loss
Tulane - Win
UCF - Loss
Tulsa - Loss
Houston - Loss
Navy - Loss
Memphis - Win
UTEP - Loss
Southern Miss - Loss
I think we'll come out strong against Rice and then take a nose dive until Tulane. We'll underestimate TxState and they'll put one on us. The only other team I see us beating is Memphis. I hope it's better than this, but I hoped last year was better, too.

You think we will beat Rice in Houston, something we haven't done in 20 years, being the first game of the year with a true freshman QB, using an offense that has a horrible record in season openers with QBs who have never run the system, but you think we'll lose to DI-AA Texas State?
