Memphis - Win
UTEP - Loss
Southern Miss - Loss

I think we'll come out strong against Rice and then take a nose dive until Tulane. We'll underestimate TxState and they'll put one on us. The only other team I see us beating is Memphis. I hope it's better than this, but I hoped last year was better, too.

I dont think you are an SMU alum... and if you are how is that markets and culture degree treating you.

A loss to TX State???

True, we haven't beat Rice in Houston in 20 years. If you want to keep living inthe past, be my guest. This is a new season, new coach, new QB and a sense of excitement that hasn't been around in a while and guess what? We're talking about RICE. Give me a break, this isn't baseball, I'm talking about their football team. Bailiff hasn't built that team into anything after just one year.

Nicholls State beat Rice in their opener last season. If an FCS team can do it, I don't know why we can't. They only beat us by 1 last year and I feel this is our year.

Texas State? They can beat Rice. They can beat us.

I've held off making any predictions until now seeing the "probable" 2-deep released. I certainly have no expectation of winning the opener. Hope these guys can surprise me and beat Rice - if they can, I expect as many as 4-5 wins this year. Lose at Rice, and I just hope we can surpass last year's win total.

I usually come into the season hoping we can go .500 at home , but this year's home schedule looks tough. Even Texas State, early in the season with a bunch of FR in the 2-deep may be more competitive than we had hoped. 2nd half of the schedule (after our young guys have some "experience" ) doesn't look like it is filled with any "cupcakes" (until we prove otherwise, SMU is the cupcake on everyone's scehdule).

My hope is that we do better than last year and are inreasingly more competitive along the way. JJ has a 5 yr contract and this is the 1st year of rebuilding this program. I just don't want to see 0-12 in his 2nd year. Been there, done that.

Either way, I'm going to make my 1st trip ever to Annapolis and very much looking forward to that trip

Wins - Rice, Texas State, Tulane, Memphis, plus i think we upset someone

5-7, though thats pure optimism, could see us going 3-9 if the D fails.

I think the Rice game is so important if we are going to a bowl this year. We need this win to get our guys believing we can do it at the start.I have no real idea what to expect early, but really neither does Rice. I think JJ & Co. will have SMU ready to play.....JJ has faced alot tougher teams than Rice before to start a season and his record proves he can be pretty darn good. Like JJ said at his Tuesday news conferenced, " You do what you have to do to WIN the game."

SMU will beat Rice. 27-24 in overtime!

You have to believe!

I predict between an 8-4 or 7-5 season plus a bowl win.

Last season, both our teams sucked, 1-11 and 4-7 are nothing for either of us to brag about. We played Baylor very close last season, even with our horrible defense. Middle of last season, we moved from a "Desert Swarm" Flex defense to a standard 4-3 and we won 3 of our last 5 games. We completely revamped our Defensive coaches (Three new coaches) this offseason also. 2 of these hires are old hands in the football world, probably around 80 years of coaching experience between the three of them.

Offensively, we return something like 98% of our production. Our main strength is our running game, as we have a stable of three capable starters. RS Freshmen Karrington Bush ran for over 1K last year and our go-to WR got over 1K yards also.

I'll be up there this Fall, looking forward to a good game.

Don't forget about your secret weapon, Will Thompson

Overtime reflects game management coaching ability. Should be much improved this year.

I know its a cliche, but during Bennett's reign I always felt like we were playing not to lose. That might help explain all the close games and last minute/overtime losses. I always had a sick feeling in the 4th that we would find away to give the other team a chance to tie or win - and somehow we always did.

I think the new staff will have no problem putting teams away - if talent permits. At least that is my expectation.

With BLM as QB, I have revised my predictions to 5-7.

Probable wins: Texas State, Memphis, Tulane
And 2 wins from among: Rice, TCU, Tulsa, Houston, Navy, UTEP
Probable losses: TTech, UCF, Southern Miss

SMU will be competitive in CUSA West this year. And having Tulsa, Houston, TCU at home gives us a shot in all three.

I predict we will stay out of the Bottom 10.
We will need 4 or 5 wins
