? for hpfan

Postby SMUFan » Mon Oct 14, 2002 9:28 pm

What's the latest on the two linemen from HP? Any word on whether they have interest in us? I know you said Ryan Gray had some interest, but what about J.D. Kearney? Has either of them been offered yet?
Thanks

We already have commitments from two good offensive linemen, Bryan Turner and Justin Boren. We add the two Highland Park kids to increase the flow of talent from HP to SMU, and then we go for massive size with Kharylake Martin and Brandon Tittle. And for good measure, we grab that Thornton guy who's brother plays for Oklahoma's Austin Whipping Boys. By my count, that's 7 offensive linemen, each with someting to offer. There's size, high school production, local connections and good bloodlines.

Why am I not in charge of recruiting? Seems I've got it all figured out!

Tittle and Thornton are showing no interest in S.M.U.

Are you sure? I was under the impression that Tittle was considering SMU, not at the top of his list, but that we're at least on the list.

Both HP linemen would be proud to play for SMU.They would be RS freshmen before they would make any significant contribution unlike Eidson. They would have to learn to hold better in order to handle d-1 players the likes of Johnson and Karrington(current freshmen). They only know winning and bring a good work ethic. As far as being offered not sure but both have been invited to games as potential recruites. I would hate to think the coaches wait too long and miss out if they are really on the board like the did with alexander Webb last year..

Sounds like you're pretty tight with these guys. Let them know how much we need them here at SMU, and how they'll have a chance to be stars with the Mustangs.
That, and they'll be close enough to sneak home for some of Mom's cooking - something no other school can offer them.

Even more important...

They can sneak home so mom can do the laundry!

I'd think the proximity to Mom's cooking would be more of an appeal than the home laundry service. After all, linemen eat more than anyone alive, and linemen aren't expected to smell that great anyway. Clean clothes are a luxury for the big guys!

Reading back over recruiting posts, I see four guys from Highland Park who are being considered, or who some people think should be considered.

How many of them are we likely to get?
