It's called frustration with not being able to change the football team, so people think if you change the mascot, uniforms, logo, etc., everything will get better. You have to change the football team.

Keep the pony but do not walk it across the field.
It is just way to sad to watch.
We should build a little stall in the south end zone and let it eat and pop all game and have kids walk down there and pet it.
the posy is NOT fast, Not powerful and NOT a MUSTANG.

Methinks hew was referring to June.
Whew. Thank you Thad, although it looks like I'll be having to change my shorts...
Why change horses (or shorts) in mid-stream?
They made a movie a decade ago about my cousin's bed wetting habit, A River Runs Through It. Ba-dum-bum!

Yes, a posy is not a mustang... nor is it a horse.

If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. But when I put something out there, it usually proves accurate. Just like the new beat writer from the DMN.
If your source was Scot Montague, the guy who was pushing the "Peruna Initiative" last fall, then it is likely wrong. I do know that as of April/May there was no push for this. If there really was such a switch coming, then it is unlikely to happen this fall, it would take more time than that to raise the money to care for an additional mascot. I have never understood the desire to change what has been a positive tradition for the university for the past 80 years.
Tradition...since when does this University care about tradition?
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

I don't know man, but I think it's like smoking Cuban cigars... I'm not supporting Castro, I'm burning his crops to the ground.

Is this a wild rumor or has anybody else heard the same thing?
Thanks in advance.
About time SMU Mustangs had a true namesake for a mascot. When I was
small I used to wonder why SMU had a small little pony.

Peruna's not going anywhere. I heard they MAY add a Mustang, but Peruna would still be play a role. I agree with the other posters that welcome the additions. A real Mustang would be somewhat intimidating like Ralphie at CU.

Shades of the Droid - and also that annoying human in the purna costume etc...etc.... When we monkey with our traditions it always fails. We do not need a horse (mustang - whatever)
Puruna is our mascot and nees no improvement or no additions.
If our current one cant run then time to pass the bridle on to a newer younger version. If they wont let us run it - we need to tell them to shove it and do it anyway. The circle of champions will pay the fine for us.
And there is no mascot anywhere that intimidates anyone. And also - there is no way JJ could care less about any of this - I think he is more concerned with our actual football team.

Yeah, while we're at it, why don't go ahead and have Zorro ride the horse and be like that school up in Lubbock?

I say paint Peruna Yale Blue and let PK ride him across the field.
And have that Olympic girl do flippie things along side.

Who exactly does a mascot intimidate? The team? "Uhho, I don't know if I can make this pass, there is a 1000lb drugged Bevo on the sideline!"
I have a hard time believing SMU will allow an unbroken riderless horse on the sidelines. If it is anything other than that, it is even less of a "Mustang" than Peruna. But I bet it'll increase attendance, just like the Mustang Maniac and the new fight song Mighty Mustang Thunder did!

I don't know if JJ cares about Peruna or not but he was instrumental in changing the uniforms - especially their beloved Rainbow which looks wimpy to the rest of the football world but was sacred at Hawaii. Suppposedly there are people who never accepted JJ because of its removal.

I was told to make sure I was in my seats before the first home game starts / players come on the field. They were not sure what was going to happen but supposedly there is something planned -- not sure if this is related -- and yes, I know it is extremely revealing to say something is planned for an opening game with a new coach.
