Freshman defensive back Ryan Smith is in an awkward situation. His first college football game is Friday night, but his older brother is on the opposing team. A Houston native, Smith will have lots of friends and family (including his father, former SMU wide receiver Anthony Smith) in attendance Friday night, cheering on both brothers. PonyFans.com caught up with Smith to discuss the emotional balance he faces between supporting his brother and hoping for an SMU victory.

His brother is a senior and will be playing his first game of the year/possible last game of his career against his brother.

Sure would be great for Ryan to always say, "hey bro, remember that time your senior year when my team beat you my freshman year"

Love your creative story titles. Nice story BTW. 8)
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

There was a big article in the Housotn Chronicle this morning about the brothers. It stated that Bencil really wanted to go to SMU but they were late in recruiting him. It would be cool if Ryan at least got in the game.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL
Brotherly love takes the field in Rice-SMU game

But when Smith takes his seat at Rice Stadium on Friday night, his thoughts won’t be so precise.

His youngest son, Ryan, might suit up for the first time for SMU, the alma mater of Anthony Smith and his younger brother, Gary.

On the opposite sideline, Rice senior safety Bencil Smith will sport the same No. 20 of his younger brother, a freshman cornerback for the Mustangs.

Unique position
Anthony Smith has yet to construct a plan to manage the emotions that will surely overwhelm him when two of his three sons take the field.

“That’s going to be interesting because I’ve never been in that position before,â€
