Dallas, defined, by Houstonian Rice grads

Some of you have had your fun with our steamy paradise. Here's a thread from our board that talks about what WE think of Dallas....

"Combine the superficiality and car culture of Southern California, the blandness of the Midwest, the narrowmindedness if not bigotry of the Deep South, and the provinciality of New England. Put that all together, and what do you have?"

Hmm.

Houston still sucks. You can keep your refineries, terrible traffic, lack of zoning, crappy air quality, and ridiculous humidity. I'll put up with the shortcomings of Dallas over any of that.

As someone who was has spent 18 years in Houston and 11 in Dallas, let me weigh in with my expert opinion - they both suck.

I prefer the Cayman Islands.

I grew up in Southern California and have been in Dallas ever since I started at SMU. My observation is that Dallas is the nation's capital of the $30k a year millionaire.

Cayman Islands are way too flat-head East to St. Thomas, St. Martin or St. Lucia. You know I could be headed to the Caribbean next week with a group of Hot Babes but turned it down to watch Texas State Peniteniary. Geez!

I can't argue with this assessment. I always thought Dallas was a half-ass version of LA. Btw, I hate LA.

That's freaking [deleted]. Smelliest places in the U.S. (in no particular order): Houston, TX; Gary, IN; L.A., CA; all of southern MS and AL; NYC alleys full of vomit.

I'm still a dozen states away from visiting all of them, so I may have missed some; however, I think we all agree that the Dallas area, including the more problematic of its citizenry and other ills, is far preferable to a place that smells of sweaty taint (or at least what I imagine sweaty taint would smell like close up...you'd have to ask those at Rice who have had intimate sweaty taint experiences about it, just to be sure that the comparison to their hometown is accurate).

Dallas has its issues - but is so far superior to the hell hole that is Houston that it is not worth discussing. Lets talk football.

Bluntly put, Houston is a swamp that has little to no redeeming qualities. Traffic sucks, zoning is a four letter word, humidity is god awful, and the smell is something that absolutely defies description. Why anyone would choose to live there is beyond me.
