Willis is not the future of this team. JJ needed to throw the freshmen out there and he did. Seriously, some of you need to relax a bit. The offense takes more than just the QB. Mitchell's numbers were hardly bad for his first game ever, throw in the hype and tv, I think he did pretty well. We have a team of youngins that was playing a team of seniors and juniors.
Willis can be the man to be backup. He can be a cheerleader. I think he could even have potential at wide receiver. But the only reason he ever stood out as a star was because Bennett couldn't do better than that on the field. He was a two-three man team coach and didn't know offense. I trust that JJ does and will prove that he was/is the right man for this job.
Let's face it, if any of you(us) could do a better job of coaching, we would be the ones on the sidelines doing the job.

all fine and good...all I am saying is BLM is not our QB...hes short, hes scrawny, he only threw the ball 10 times a game in HS.....only reason he started was because June thought he was a QB God and could make his little fanboy successful.
We may be good two years from now....but BLM will not be a part of it.

The problem was on defense
The problem was on defense. The offense will get much better. Tell how the "D" is goging to do that this year.

Look - this is an alarmist attitude from someone who's been waiting for three weeks with his finger one inch off the panic button.
I don't understand the impatience. We overpaid dramatically for this coach specifically because we are deep in an abyss here and everyone knew it - not because we were a couple of gee-whiz run and shoot plays away from 9-3 in 2007-2008.
Keep trotting out Willis and you delay ultimate progress - he is a good player but he ceased being the key to success at SMU as of January 2008. Period.

Got a call from someone who knew a bunch of the players on Coach Jones' first Hawaii team. He said that after they got drilled in the first game by USC, his friends on the team were freaking out because in practice that week, the coaches didn't change a single thing they had taught before the 60-point loss in the opener.
They won nine games that year. Not saying that will happen here, but there's no reason for a post like that. Had Mitchell had a great game in his first outing as a true freshman, he would have been a real rarity, and while the final score didn't look good, and the turnovers hurt, it sounded (I was listening on the radio - will watch the rebroadcast tonight) like he did some good things, too.
What say you give Mitchell and Jones a chance to improve, huh?

i am buying into the big picture..i am willing to wait....i just don't understand why we would start a little skinny kid that threw the ball 10 times a game...Yes, the defense was lacking....but Bo gave them 35 points with his interceptions and fumbles....hard to blame the defense for that.
Start Willis...rebuild this year and then bring in a true QB recruit, redshirt him..and let him rock and roll in 3 years after Willis is done......
But Jones was arrogant and now we pay.

Seriously...dont compare getting drilled by USC to being drilled by Rice...that is an insult...

I doubt that most here were totally unhappy with the O's efforts, but that in no way compensates for the total lack of speed and poor Defensive display.
If you don't have the horses then at least take some risks to do something on the D.
Standing around and letting Rice destroy you is unacceptable.
BTW you are all welcome to jump on the USC bandwagon as a temporary fix because we are kin..."Fighting Methodists"

Bagice-I will take an arrogant confident coach any day over a clueless one.
Not to mention if you are going to rag on Mitchell get his stats correct please. He wasn't just a nobody QB recruit. He's the best QB recruit we've seen in some time. Give the kid a break and let the love affair with Willis go.

Right now, JW doesn't match JJ's style of football. He runs at the slightest hint of the pocket collapsing, never really watching downfield. And when he finally did look up, he watched his primary target all the way allowing the defense an easy read. That was really evident during the back half of last season.
If he wants off the bench, he's gonna have to prove to JJ he's more patient, confident in his teammates abilities and has better control of his temper. I can't watch another season where he throws his helmet to the ground after a mistake.

How was he a great recruit? who wanted him besides June? He was a little scrawny short kid on a great running highshool team....he was by no means highly recruited...YOU get your facts straight.

Bagice-check out these numbers and go drink a few beers and look forward to next week's game.
BLM-completion rate tonight 59%, 3 interceptions
Willis-completion rate for the 2007 season 58.5%, averaged 1.5 interceptions a year
Don't give us that Willis's numbers would have been better tonight. They wouldn't have.
