there is some real football talk on this board tonight buried between the panic sisters. I think we might be seeing some awakening from the hibernation.
I'm pissed that I have to be in New Orleans next weekend. It's only Texas State, but this team is going to get a lot better as we go. It's the first time in a long time that when the camera showed our coach, I felt pretty good about things, in spite of how tonight went.
A lot of you were expecting too much in the first game. Enjoy the ride, it's going to be a fun one.

This sounds very familiar. Former QB Cavan benches Ramon Flannigan
SMU record offense leader in favor of some freshman prodigy recruit
that held great potential, and later played in the NFL.
Only after about 5 or 6 games of mistakes, inconsistency, and enough
wins to keep us in contention for a bowl game, did Cavan realize it was
serious, and we need the best QB in there. Ramon Flannigan.
We weren't a 1-11 team last year. It was the pressure from the MOB
BOSS that heads were to roll if we didn't go to a bowl game that bit the
team like a SNAKE.
Everyone knows in their heart if the players were having fun last year
we would've been at least 4 - 8, and probably at least 6-6 with out the
pressure of losing the coach that recruited them.
JJ, Hayden Fry tried to do the best he could for SMU's present season.
There were no building years for the future. That was what truly made
him a great coach. He designed, and improvised the O, and D to fit the
players he had that year.
JJ, you seem to be selling a SYSTEM that can't be changed somewhat to
fit the SEASON you happen to be IN.

I have no problem with what JJ is doing. BLM is going to be a fantastic qb by the end of this season.
With a true frosh QB and three new linemen, you just can't expect a ton out of this team this season. By the end of this year, I expect us to be playing pretty well.

I think BLM has potential, but he's never played against defenses like he will be going against this year, and sitting a year and learning would have been good for him. I think JJ hurt him by not doing that. Heck, by the end of the game it looked like BLM was going to cry, talk about killing a young man's confidance.
His long passes weren't even close, the first one the receiver had the safety beat and it was underthrown, and that was before his arm was tired, and it got worse from there.
But if we're relying on 5 yard basically shuttle passes, he looked good doing that!

I think you might not need to worry about making any trips to New Orleans for quite some time.
