Irrelevant Again???

I thought I posted about this topic earlier but maybe I f'ed up from the Blackberry. Anyway, would like to get some thoughts on this:

A four-TD loss at Rice in a game that really wasn't competitive in the final 30 minutes and the Owls took their foot off the gas in the final quarter is a really embarassing way for the JJ Era to begin.

The loss certainly wasn't JJ's fault as it should be pretty obvious to anyone who was in Rice Stadium or watched nationally on ESPN that SMU trotted out very few D-IA caliber athletes as the Ponies were pretty much man-handled by Rice.

Sure the loss was bad, but to me, maybe the most damaging part of it, was that SMU will still be considered a laughingstock by just about anyone not affiliated with SMU (heck, and a good many that are affiliated with SMU) in the Metroplex.

SMU was able to grab a ton of attention in the DFW area with the hiring of JJ and their promotion of the 2008 season centers around JJ being a 'savior'.

If SMU was a little more competitive tonight or at least entertaining, I wouldn't suggest this, but I'm afraid that SMU becomes irrelevant again tomorrow in DFW.

SMU will always be irrelevant in DFW as long as the Cowboys are there. That said, I agree that we didn't help ourselves with future recruits with this drubbing.
