Not In My Worst Nightmares Did I Expect That!

Post by StallionsModelT »

Oh. My. God. This thing is likely 3 years away from sniffing competitive football. Rice could have beaten us by 50. Just please let us beat Texas State otherwise all the JJ love will disappear and back to the cellar we go. I mean WOW. Disturbing doesn't begin to describe it.
Back off Warchild seriously.

That is better, but still doesn't do it justice.

I mean, will ESPN ever consider us for a game again? Two years in a row we've had a 'primetime' ESPN game and two years in a row we got smoked. We weren't going to beat Tech but we were expected to give them a run for their money...

...About last night....Good Lord this team has a long, long way to go. I don't have any expectations this year. New QB, new coach, new system, new players, and while the team had some bright spots, the defense will be the achillles heel of this team. Just not athletic enough. Rice did have a few years experience playing together, plus a home crowd so I figured Rice would win it anyways, but a blowout? I didn't like some of Jone's playcalling, going deep deep in our own territory but this team has a lot of work ahead of them this week. If for some reason we lose to Texas St., the season is down the crapper...again. Fans will be turned off and we already have a tough schedule. Rice should have been a win last night but it didn't happen.

Speaking of schedules, suddenly a 4-8 season isn't looking good. 2-10 may be more like it. How are we going to do anything when we play TCU, Tech, Memphis (a supposed up and comer in C-USA), Houston, Tulsa, UCF, ECU (might beat VaTech today), So. Miss and Navy? Good God.

Serious question though: Was this game originally supposed to be later in the season, but moved to the first one for a TV slot? If so, I think if we played Rice a month or two from now, we could win. Tough start to the season for an inexperienced QB and offense.

I think that's a bit much. We are a team that went 1-11 last year, we have the youngest team in D-1 football, we are starting a freshman QB, and everybody is learning a brand new system. Lighten up. Last night was bad, very painful to watch, but let's not talk about firing our coach after one game.

Not in your worst nightmare did you expect that? Are you serious?

Guess you forgot our defense was almost dead last in college football last year. That wasn't going to change right away. And JJ isn't a defensively minded coach anyway.

I think the game was almost exactly what SHOULD have been expected by everyone.

Did anybody stop to think maybe Rice is a better team this year than they were last year.
The SMU D is also rated by some sport services to be about 115.

I think Rice is a better team that will be competitive but not win CUSA West. Not too many schools in this conference have 3 kids like Clement, Casey and Superman. They have more returning starters and experience than just about any team in the league. Rice wasn't given enough respect on this board. All are probably as good at what they do in CUSA West if not in the entire Conference. Casey is a freak and a big weapon who is going to tear up this conference at whatever position he is playing. Very impressive kid who really exposed our weaknesses. Kinda reminds me of a bigger Gary Hammond playing QB, RB and WR

When you play a true freshman at QB like Coach Jones did, this is what happens almost every time. Concerning this what bothers me is JJ said he was playing the best player AT this time, and he would not panic etc. Wrong....in the 3rd quarter BLM was panicing and just threw the ball up for grabs on several interceptions for TDs or set up TDs. BLM has talent and a great arm, but was not ready to play at Rice. I hated to see him put in that position. JJ had other better options at least for this game.....The defensive secondary was basically horrible after the 1st quarter and where was this claimed aggressive JET D ? For the most part I saw a poorly organized read and react type D...
