JJ doesn't care in the slightest about what the critics have to say after a game, or two games, or a season. He runs a system he believes is proven, and is supremely confident that it will work here, too. Sure hope we win, that's true, and I'll be there from start to finish, either way. But no, it's not a MUST-win game.
sure he may not care about his critics but a loss to a FBS school is in the back of his mind. he didnt get paid the big bucks to lose to "cupcakes"
he knows if his team is 0-2, there will be a lot of people riding his butt

I'd say it a must win, or Texas Tech will be trying to put another digit under the home score on their scoreboard!

Lose to what is a Div. 1-A team and this year is lost for the season. We know that our team score, but can they play defense? I look for fewer turnovers and that might have changed the Rice game too. For now I've got those old bad feelings that come from having lost far too long to teams we were supposed to beat even when we have a below average team.

yes, it's a "MUST WIN' game - it's a I-AA (Division I-FCS for you purists)opponent. That means, by definition, an inferior opponent. Fewer scholarship players. Teams you schedule for a "W". Players who, for the most part, were not considered "worthy" of playing with the big boys. That means they will be playing with a chip on their shoulders. Given our showing against Rice...makes them dangerous.
Realistically, if JJ is going to be the one to turn this thing around, this is a "MUST WIN". Just like back in the Ron Meyer era, year over year improvement (record wise) is crucial at this point. That means winning this game and finding someone else we can beat along the way...Tulane? UTEP? Navy? Memphis?
Gotta hope for enough improvement by year end to find at least 2-3 wins this year if we want to keep the commitments of some recruits who could attract a lot of attention with strong senior seasons. Everyone associated with this program (and that includes fans) needs to believe that JJ is going to be the one to bring SMU football back to life. Beating Texas State-San Marcos is a MUST.
On an unrelated note...I do have fond memories of The Hill Restaurant's chicken fried steak as a good meal on the way to Nuevo Laredo. Just never imagined we'd be playing SWTSU some day...and calling it a "MUST WIN".

of course its a must win. the far scarier thing than declaring a game against non D-1 SWTSU a must win, CP, is that some people on here are saying its not.

So if we do not win does the program disband? The only "must win" games are in playoffs. This is a very important game to win and would be a step forward instead of another step back, but I have a feeling if we were to lose that we would still play out the rest of the season.

There are no must wins, but if we lose, I suspect there will be some starters riding pine the following week.

What's really scary is that you used to be the most sensible poster on this board. You all right?

If we lose I would expect Ford will look much like a ghost town for the rest of our home games. Too many fans (?) will support us only if we are winning (or at least show some promise thereof).
