Holy crap I cannot believe some of the people on this board. We lost a game to rice by several TDs and suddenly JJ is a terrible coach? Get real. Do you guys not remember that we were awful last year? Were we supposed to completely transform overnight? We are the youngest team in the ncaa right now.
I know people are pissed about JW not getting to start but this isn't about 1 game, it's about several seasons and building a quality team over time.
Some of you are just terrible, terrible fans. Calm down and just look for the positives instead of being completely ridiculous.

I agree that most of the comments on here are stupid, but it is easy for "smu 2007" to tell people to wait several seasons for a quality team, and that it doesn't happen overnight, and that we are the youngest team in football, when everyone has been hearing that same things since 1989.

SMU2007 might be new to SMU fandom, but he's exactly right. Nothing was going to change overnight. Our team wasn't exactly successful last year (except when North Texas State Vocational School was around), and we lost three starting offensive linemen, a starting wide receiver, two starting linebackers, a starting safety and a couple of starting defensive linemen. That, coupled with the new systems being put in place by the new coaches, made it unrealistic to expect a win, even over Rice. I do think, however, based on the nature of the teaching and encouragement at practice, that these guys will continue to get better as the season goes along.
I'd love a rematch with Rice in December.

I think you could make a pretty good case that we were far from successful in the NTSU game last year as well....600+ yards in the air from a crappy QB doesn't exactly scream "success".

Nor do those measly 327 yards gained by UNT receiver Casey Fitzgerald, school record, most in 2007 by +100 yards and 5th place all-time I think...good point
