I feel sorry for your players. Having to play in not only one, but two cities that literally smell like crap can't be good for their respiratory systems. Maybe that's the Rice and Tech strategy: make your town smell like a giant turd, get your team acclimated to it...and then "invite" out-of-towners to come "visit".

Funny story alert, only to be read by those who hate Lubbock:

During my only visit to Lubbock, the Board of Barristers of their Law School tried to "schmooze" the Moot Court award winners and offer scholarships, etc. My MC partner and I were being given free drinks by one of them, and after idle chit-chat, he asked questions such as what kind of financial assistance it would take to get us to come there. After almost shooting bourbon out of my nose at the thought, I asked him if law students have access to water that doesn't taste like cow poo. Ray (MC partner) tried (and failed) to avoid laughing and the guy's face went from smile to "never mind".

He congratulated us again and moved on pretty quickly to the next pre-law types. He didn't try to talk to us again during the remaining day we were there.

It is actually how it went down...I just wish I had a picture of the guy's face when I said that, because it was one of the funniest things I've ever seen in my life.

I'll be there. Leaving Thursday night. It's gonna be a wild game. I think the score will be 6500 to 12 million. I'm not sure who will win but I have a hunch. I just hope we don't come out with injuries!

Wow you sound like a really cool guy. You probably have a lot of really cool stories. Do you tell them to your really cool friends?

Tech Law is taking pretty good care of me. But then again, I brought bottled water to my interviews...

Why the heLL is everyone talking about the Tech game already? SMU has a game against Texas State this Saturday in Dallas and it's not a 'gimme'. Chill out on the Tech talk until after Saturday's game.

Considering the bottled water remark, I think smarty here was agreeing with me about the nasty water. I've at times considered whether I'd be willing to be miserable for 3 years for free law school.

And for the record, most of my friends are big nerds, which makes the answer to your questions a big "no".

He's right. Ha, You should do well with logical reasoning.

Can't say that in my 5 years in Lubbock that I have ever drank the water. Not neccessarily because it's bad now, but because it DEFINITELY was when my sister went to school out here a few years before me.

Miserable? Well you know the saying- Lubbock or leave it. However, with you going to Commuter U, I think you'd find a college town atmosphere like Lubbock more refreshing than not.

Why is a Tech guy arguing with a UNT guy about how crappy each of their schools are on an SMU message board?

Don't get me wrong, its funny - just a little strange.

Me plus 4 - and actually had the bad judgment to agree to swing by one of my buddies Tech tailgate for some pre-game festivities, I'm looking in to some counseling for the family to recover from the experience afterwards... the tailgate and the game.
pffffffffffft - I see the ScrewUp Fairy has visited us again.

I'll be going with my husband like I have every SMU v. Tech game in Lubbock since we've been together. I'll be bringing my mom and my 10 month old daughter. Honestly, I have never had any problems out there, and have admired the enthusiasm and fullness of their student section.

And yes, the bleacher thing is because the whole student section jumps up and down on the bleachers to what the drum line plays before kick offs. And yes, they do pass them down the student section to the yellow coats so that security can remove them.
