Last Year's Class ?

Postby Guest » Mon Dec 09, 2002 9:38 pm

Anyone know how Brent Karrington is doing? I've seen Cole Horton around campus and he's definitely gotten bigger. Any word on him or Reggie Carrington? Just wanted to add that I can't wait to see Anthony Barnett next year Image This year's class will raise the talent level twofold. It's going to be an exciting next few years~!

Karrington was on the travel squad all year as was Dedman. They both preserved their red shirt status due to the iron man work of Adami and Croy.Karrington looks bigger at 260 going on 270 next year. Heard he may play end but more likely DT next to Adami. He and a bunch of his HP classmates are going back to fast twitch during break for quickness(12 players Went to the next level from HP last year). He came thru the season relatively healthy..

Please explian " going on fast twitch" I understand the difference between to muscle fibers but remember that as genetic.
Is their proven research and workouts that specifically develop fst twitch fibers?

Very interested

Yes, there are exercises that focus on the development of fast-twitch fibers. Not that you can grow more of them — the percentage of fast-twitch fibers within a person's muscular system is genetically predetermined. Because of that, you can't expect a Sterling Harris to suddenly clock a 4.2 40 after going through such workouts. But there definitely are exercises that can be done that will help a player get more out of his fast-twitch muscle mass, to utilize what his parents genetically gave him. It's all about burst, or explosion, whether it's taking off downfield or bursting out of your crouch when blocking. Sometimes superior explosion can overcome slighty superior size and strength.

The best example of fast-twitch development is Adam Archuleta, who plays safety for the St. Louis Rams. When he went to college (Arizona State), he was admittedly very slow. He signed on with a personal trainer who put him through an array of seemingly crazy exercises, and lo and behold, he discovered a level of speed he'd never previously shown. With continued speed work and weight training, he ended up playing linebacker at ASU, where he was a threat rushing the passer or dropping into coverage. He's now one of the better safeties in the NFC -- something that would have seemed crazy when he arrived at ASU.

BUS Fast twitch is the program of conditioning at valley ranch used by elite athletes of all types. The idea is to get get Quicker, faster, stronger and have more stamina. SMU was negotiating to install it but I am not sure they worked it out yet. Clemson just installed it.Off season pro players in all sports use it as well as most college players as a preperation to performing at the annual combine. One of the measuring points about Karrington last year was he had agility times as fast or faster than wide reciever types after going for about 9 mos.. Also of the five HP guys that went all summer prior to their senior season(2HRS X 3days)all went D-1. Afterward the people around here swear by it...

I've heard that Reggie Carrington and Brent Karrington are going to be players on this defense, as early as the upcoming season. Carrington had a terrific year on the scout team - he looked equally adept at rushing the passer or dropping into pass coverage, and he was surprisingly strong against the run. Karrington filled in capably at DE in practice all year, and often was successful against the first-string offense.

I hadn't heard the report hpfan gave about the possibility of Karrington moving inside to DT, but I don't see why that can't work. He looks like he's put on 20-30 pounds, and if he keeps that up, he could be a good interior guy. He's 6-4, and if he gets up to 280 or so and maintains that quickness/mobility, then maybe we've found our inside counterpart to go along with the great Allan Adami.

BUS Call "Fast Twitch" @ Valley Ranch. The Ranch Health Club next to the Cowboys training facility...Kirk Byerly is the owner..They do a free test drive/demo to try it out...most people can not handle it and they can find out who can...They also define programs for the specific needs of the athlete...If you mention SMU,,Highland Park Kids,,,or Brent Karrington he will give you a package price and discount which is a lot cheaper than a by session cost...good luck and do'nt worry they have a lot of barf cans and they are well used by some of the best athletes in the country....

Good luck with that program, BUS. But if your son develops into a big, fast Urlacher-like middle linebacker, we'd better be seeing him in an SMU uniform in a few years!

Is he as big a PonyFan as you are?
