I kind of liked him - our fans are so pathetic they need to be told when to cheer and they were told and obeyed most of the night. I knew the old fart/blue hair crowd would hate it, bu then we only have three or four years before they all die off so we better find something else to bring people to the game. Linebackers would help.

I find it annoying, but it is nice that SMU is trying to find a way to get some crowd life. Normal announcers haven't done anything to help. Perhaps this will appeal to more Dallasites that are used to it with the Mavs, Desperados, and elsewhere.

It was amusing. When your football program has sucked for the last 20 years, your tradition is losing and there is nothing established, it couldn't hurt.

He was off-the-chart and borderline silly, but it was a risk they wanted to take. The fact that many people are commenting on him means he did his job.

Are you ready to pony up?

P.S. I think he is the P.A. guy for the Dallas Desperados.

Seriously? Is it him or all of the other activities going on?

De-fense. Deeee-fense. Deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-fense.

Most of the people that I sit next to roll their eyes at "Humble" Billy Hays. I personally think the guy is terrible.

I agree that SMU fans are typically more quiet than an "average" college football fan, but I thought this guy was a little over the top.

Posted earlier, he didn't seem to have his facts straight, and his in-house play by play was lackluster. Maybe after a few more games he will be a little better, but still, I think it is completely unnecessary and very amateur.

Thinking about it, once we have something to cheer for it might be far less annoying. Might be a good schtick to stick with. Very Dallas.

I think hes fine. been going to the game for years and i dont have a problem with him.

I think the problem with the SMU PA guy was i felt like he didnt care to do the game. no excitement, no energy. but thats just MHO

Can we hire Verne Lundquist away from the SEC to be our PA announcer?

Hell, the Rangers are never doing anything after September, let's go ahead and get Chuck Morgan.

What was up with that Journey song? They played the whole damn thing and even had some video to go with it. Maybe it woulda been a bit better if they didn't actually show Journey and just stuck to SMU highlights, but I saw Steve Perry in all his prissy glory as much as SMU.

This ain't the 80s, no one cares about Journey. Strangest and stupidest thing I have seen at Ford.

"Up and down the Boulevard"

Yeah, I that it was lame that they used a song for one line.

My opinion on the announcer was that it was very much a hack job and not a good representation of our school. The announcer should announce the game, give the information, its the cheerleaders, the band, and the video board's job to motivate the crowd.

I can't get too down on our fans, we have had pitiful little to cheer about in forever. When we start winning and competing for conference titles and not have play South West Texas State and see them go through our defense like a hot knife through butter, the cheering and enthusiam will be there. Winning will cure many things, and fan apathy will be at the top of the list.

Some IDIOTS on here complained about the new tradition the
past few years of the announcer calling for "HOW BOUT A LITTLE
THIRD DOWN THUNDER
:!:

It was hilarious :!: The announcer would say third down the first 10 or
so times, but nobody got it. He was trying as hard as he could not to
say third down thunder

SMU fans are too kewl to show emotion at football games. 8)
