SMU Postgame Notes
September 6, 2008
At SMU 47, Texas State 36

TEAM

Aldrick Robinson (172) and Emmanuel Sanders (138) are SMU’s first pair of 100-yard receivers in the same game since a game at Tulsa in 1999 (Cody Cardwell (146) and Chris Cunningham (141))

This is the first time SMU has had five passing TDs since hosting Sam Houston State in 2006

The PAT block by Youri Yenga was the first for SMU since Joe Sturdivant versus Arkansas State in 2006

INDIVIDUAL

Derrius Bell - returned the blocked PAT for a two-point defensive TD, the first score of his career

Will Bonilla - Butkus Award Candidate
- played in his 36th career game with 13 career starts

Mitch Enright - Rimington Award Candidate
- played in his 19th career game and started 14th consecutive game

Pete Fleps - had the first two forced fumbles of his career

Tyler Jones - had his first career interception and then a 19-yard return

DeMyron Martin – Doak Walker Award candidate
- had his first rushing TD of the season and 12th of his career
- Was 7-44 rushing with a TD and 4-20 receiving
- His 1753 career rushing yards are 16th at SMU

Bo Levi Mitchell
- had 5 TD passes, which ties for second in a game at SMU
- had 370 passing yards, which is 13th in a game at SMU

Thomas Morstead
- Made 6 PATs in this game is now has 86 career PATs, which is second at SMU (record is 130 by Eddie Garcia, 1978-81)
- Had 9 points and now has 167 for his career, moving into 11th at SMU
- Had 2 punts for 110 yards to increase his season average to 48.6
- career average is up to 44.6, which is first at SMU and in C-USA

Aldrick Robinson
- Had a career-high 8 receptions and 172 yards
- The 172 receiving yards are tied for 4th in a single-game at SMU and set the sophomore record
- Also had his second straight multi-TD receiving game, the SMU record is three consecutive multi-TD games by Albert Johnson in 1998

Emmanuel Sanders
- had 8 catches for 138 yard with 3 TDs
- this is his fifth career multi-TD game, second time with at least three TDs
- He has seven TD catches in his last three games (3 at Memphis 2007, 1 at Rice, 3 vs. Texas State)
- this is his sixth career 100-yard game, and third consecutive
- now has 22 career receiving TDs, tying Jerry LeVias for second at SMU (record is 25 by Emanuel Tolbert)
- now has 132 career points as he moved into 20th at SMU
- now has 1753 career receiving yards to move into 8th at SMU

Terrance Wilkerson
- Had his first career receptions and yards (3-33)

Youri Yenga
- had his second career forced fumble
- had his first career fumble recovery
- had his first career kick block, stopping the PAT in the second quarter

Even in the box score, it is called a 2-pt TD. Confusing.

I just found the answer to my own question.

If on a try/PAT field goal the kick is blocked the defense may return the ball for a two point TD.

The defense really missed Bonilla tonight.

I do commend Alex Odiari for getting hurt with what looked like a pretty bad ankle injury, then shaking it off and playing the 2nd half.

The Texas State CBs were awful-Robinson is going to make big plays all year but they were just awful and we've seen awful CBs around here for awhile. Very interested to see how he performs against quality competition against TCU and Tech.

I thought it looked more like a leg cramp. But I could be wrong.

He was grabbing his calf before he went down, so I would think cramp as well
