Jones Era: 56-27 loss to Rice (team quit with almost half of the game left) Defense allowed 36 points and I'd rather not know how many yards against piddly little TSU.
Unfortunately, this can't be proven, but I guarantee you Bennett's team this year would've beaten rice in a close one and dismantled TSU.
Don't know about you guys, but I'd rather kill the little guys and lose with some dignity. Coach Jones isn't worth the money and never will be. Can his [deleted] and let's move on. Look what rice is doing spending nothing on their program...(performing better than us) The AD jumped the gun on this one. This was the season we were going to see bennett return us to glory. Good job naysayers. Get ready to never have a defense and the AD never firing Jones because we kissed too much [deleted] w/ our tongue out to get him. It's one thing to lose trying to do things the right way. It's another to make a complete mockery of college football, pay for a coach your school doesn't deserve and still look like the worst team in college football.
Actually Bennett's first year was in 2002.
Took him 4 seasons to beat that POWERHOUSE known as
Rice.

Does alamocitystang win the prize as the 1st pf.com poster to call for JJ's dismissal?

you are a complete moron. it'd probably be best for you and everyone on this board if you just didn't ever post any of your thoughts again.
Thanks in advance,

and even though your post doesn't even deserve a response by anyone, i do want to say to anyone out here thinking "wow, JJ just isn't getting it done" - what the hell did you expect this year? he had a couple weeks to put together a recruiting class, and even if he was able to get a decent class - are you going to have 22 true freshmen playing competitive ball?
some people are so absurd. this thing is going to take time. i guarantee we wouldn't look drastically different at this point of rebuilding if we had pete carroll and bob stoops coaching together. there's only so much you can do when you have the players that we currently have. JJ will bring in better recruits and this thing will get rolling but enough with the absurd expectations.

But he did come away with a nice arm sling. I hear Houston has the best around.

Has Oscar already paid a visit upon the SMU defense? Just wondering...

Bennett couldn't judge or utilize talent. This applied to football players and coaches. In fact, his coaching staffs were NTSU quality if you ask me.

Tell Alamo to relax. He sounds like a person who has never competed in sports beyond Little League whatever and has no clue what is needed and what is like to compete at this level. There is such a vast maturity and strength difference between a freshman and even a sophomore that they should not even be compared. Things take time. Bennett had his opportunity and could not produce. Move on and forget what was not going to happen. Notice what has happened to Pitt in its first 2 games with Bennett calling the O. Yep, got upset big time in the first game scoring virtually no points and barely beat 3d year Div 1 Buffalo with a late 4th quarter drive for breathing room.

lets just move to a permanent 3-3-5 because i'd rather have a team out rush us than out pass us.

I totally agree!!! My grip had always been that Bennett never utilize the talent and judgment to be a Head Coach. I finally understood that this man did not know how!!! A good talker but not a walker. All was about him and his drama on the field.
Almo :: Bennett became Coach of SMU 12-05-2001, Please tell us in your OP again, just what he did the first 2 seasons. SMU hired a Defensive co-ordinator from Kansas State. We now finally have a real Coach 1-1 so far.
You are griping after our first win and ready to get rid of him. I can tell that you would feel better if we lost. Did you say your a fan of the ponies?

I find it very amusing that there are several posters on this thread who vehametly and bitterly complained that Bennett was losing close games last year and there was plenty of defensive talent to win all -or at least many of those close games lost on defense last year. Is this like debaters who are allowed to argue either side of the argument?
